Don't Demonize Africa for Omicron

Y’all do realize that Africa is a continent with 54 independent countries, and Omicron has only been detected in two of those countries so far (South Africa and Botswana).

Omicron is the new Covid variant, also known as B11529.

It’s also been detected in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, but we’re not banning flights from Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, Sweden, and the UK, all of which have reported Omicron cases.

This new Covid variant was first “detected” in South Africa and Botswana because their scientists and epidemiologists were doing their jobs. But just because they discovered it there doesn’t mean it originated there.

If past history with the Covid pandemic is any indication, then Omicron is probably in nearly every country, or soon will be. It just hasn’t been “detected” yet.

So, let’s not panic and overreact. Just protect yourself. Get vaccinated. Wear a mask when needed. And follow public health guidelines.
