Dreamgirls JHud

Dreamgirls backstage

Dreamgirls

In honor of the Christmas release of the new film Dreamgirls, I am presenting some new photos from the movie, along with a link to my original review of Dreamgirls from last month.

As I said in my review, "Dreamgirls not only lives up to the hype, it also exceeds many of the expectations and answers some of the critics' toughest questions."

And also: "Dreamgirls is an ambitious project, but it is one of those ambitious projects where the creators got it right. This movie will be the biggest and most important black film since The Color Purple. You will see it many times over the course of your life, and tomorrow's generations will surely appreciate it for the classic that it is."

Go see it today.

This page is slowly (and unintentionally) turning into a James Brown tribute site. As you can tell, I really liked James Brown.

So I'm browsing through the New York Post, disappointed that they didn't put the James Brown news as their lead story on the cover, when I come across this priceless picture (above).

It's a photo of Rev. Al Sharpton and James Brown leaving the White House in 1982. "I never thought I'd live to see him die," said Sharpton, who was a longtime friend of Brown's.

"There wouldn't have been a Michael Jackson or Prince or hip-hop if not for James Brown. He literally redefined us with one song: 'Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud.'

Rev. Sharpton also added: "He was like the father I never had and I was like the son he didn't have."

LL Cool J

There's been a lot of beef lately about whether LL Cool J is too old to be a rapper. I don't have an opinion about that, but can any other rapper do this?

As you may know by now, LL Cool J has a new fitness book out, just in time for that new year's resolution. It's called LL Cool J's Platinum Workout: Sculpt Your Best Body Ever with Hollywood's Fittest Star.

The reviews of the book on Amazon.com are very good. Sounds like a great motivational tool for anyone who wants to shed a few pounds, put on some muscle, tone up or tone down for the new year. And best of all, you get LL Cool J to boot.

It was, after all, LL Cool J who inspired me to launch my own fitness journal back in April so I could get in shape to wrestle at the Gay Games in Chicago.

I've been following his workout routine for years. Now there's a book to help out too. Looks like 2007 will be shaping up nicely.
