It's showtime at the Apollo as the new marquee and facade are officially unveiled today. I got a sneak peak at the famous landmark last month. While walking down 125th Street, I snapped this quick pic (above) on my camera phone. Then on Tuesday I saw the new sign fully lit when coming home from the gym.
It's really an impressive sign. It's computer-animated, which means it can change the content without pulling out a ladder to put up new words. And for those who like the old style, the new marquee can produce the same type of letters that make it look old-fashioned when it needs to be.
For those who've visited the theater in recent years, you know how run down it's become. It's good to see that change is on the way. Congratulations to the Apollo. The crown jewel of Harlem entertainment is finally coming back to life.
