You are definitely right. I don't necessary think we should focus on it being a race issue but the issue is that Gates was arrested at his own home after he provided ID that he lives there. The issue was handled with ignorance by the police officer. The officer used his authority to arrest Gates for no relevant reason.
A black man being jailed for reasons such as this has been happening for years, and now we shouldn't rest on this issue.
