Flava Works Has Gone Too Far

Cleveland, OH -- For the past few days I have received several disturbing emails about a house in Miami that is reportedly being used to videotape live sex acts for distribution on the Internet. I was not at all surprised to learn that the accused ringleaders behind the house are the people involved with Flava Life and Cocodorm, a notoriously unscrupulous group of Internet sex purveyors who have already been involved in a sex scandal in Chicago. This story has grown from charges of exploitation of young black gay men in Chicago to new allegations, reported this week in Miami. And now it also involves charges of harassment and intimidation against bloggers and journalists.
After Bernard Tarver and Jasmyne Cannick reported this week on the results of a Chicago health department investigation that criticized Flava Works, both bloggers reportedly received intimidating messages designed to stop them from discussing this issue on their blogs. Quite frankly, I'm tired of all the nonsense from these people at Flava Works. This is no longer a question about free speech. This is an issue about basic integrity and responsibility, and it's increasingly clear to me that the people at FlavaWorks have none.
Bernie Tarver explained the situation on his web site yesterday. "Two days ago, I posted an item about a recent report issued by the Chicago Department of Public Health that mentioned the findings from their investigation into health practices at CocoDorm.com, the gay porn website that used to be located in the Windy City...Within hours I received emails attempting to silence me for reporting on what is in a publicly accessible government agency document, from which I simply quoted verbatim."
A day later, Flava Works filed a complaint with the company that hosts Tarver's blog, claiming copyright infringement for his use of a screen shot of their web site. "Due to some confusion involving my web host and their communications to me of this complaint, [my] site actually went down for about an hour earlier today," Tarver reported on Wednesday.
I spoke to Jasmyne Cannick by telephone this morning and she too confirmed that she had received threats since she reported on the incident. Cannick, who used to write for Flava Life, felt compelled to discuss the issue on her blog after Tarver's site was targeted for attack. "The idea that they think that just because you write for them that you won't say anything negative about them is questionable. Right is right and wrong is wrong and clearly there's something wrong. You can't buy me off. You can't buy my silence," she said.
If this is the way that the people at Flava Works do business then they deserve to be shut down. And we in the community must not continue to support them. Some bloggers and writers in the community may feel conflicted because Flava Life has purchased advertisements on their blogs or hired them as writers for their publications. Some, like Tarver, even acknowledge that they've bought some of Flava Work's videos in the past. None of that gives Flava Works the right to intimidate people who are simply reporting the truth about the company's own record of bad behavior.
But the story doesn't end there. This week, more than a dozen Miami police and code inspectors descended on a house in the Edgewater neighborhood of the city and posted a notice of five code violations. The local media discovered that a group in the house was operating an unlicensed hardcore live Internet sex business in a residential area not zoned for such commercial purposes. Miami police told the local news that they had been called there four times since September.
"We will not permit it over there," said Mariano Loret de Mola, director of Miami's code enforcement office. "It's just illegal. It's plainly illegal activity that is not permitted in the city to have an adult entertainment in a residential area." The man behind the business, Phillip Bleicher, was the same person behind Flava Works. He had already created what the Illinois attorney general called a "bogus" school charity that raised more than 3 million dollars nationwide and helped finance his porn business, the Miami press reported. The complaint was later withdrawn, but new findings revealed this week by Tarver indicated other problems for the Flava Works business entity.
Results of the investigation in Chicago revealed "a dense sexual network of 47 persons and documented syphilis and HIV infections associated with the Internet pornography business," the Chicago Department of Public Health reported. "Exposure histories and incubation periods were consistent with transmission of syphilis and HIV within the sexual network. Of the 19 individuals who were identified as employees of the business, the median age was 23 years (age range 19-35) and all were African-American males. Of the 19 men involved with the business, nine (47%) were infected with HIV, and nine (47%) were with syphilis. Six (32%) men were co-infected with syphilis and HIV."
So how did this business get from Chicago to Miami? When city officials went to the Chicago building, "They were packing up and leaving the city," officials told the media. And they moved to Miami.

I saw one of these videos (I guess a video copied from the Internet site) a few weeks ago. I didn't really like it. The boys (and they were skinny enough to be boys) looked like they were all on drugs, and I don't believe I saw a smile ever on anyone's face. Just before showing it, my friends and I had just got into a big argument about how thug or dl culture has taken over the black homosexual world, especially among the young guys. I guess showing me this "thug sex" video was supposed to convince me totally that "thug style" is in vogue. Well, I finally had to admit they were right. I don't know what goes on among these younguns' anyway. Yeah, "thug style" and HIV...both on the rise, baby.
And the killer is, not nah one of them middle-class bitches I was arguing with could pass for a homothug anyway!...wanna' be thugs, and both of 'em got bellies stickin' way out--grandpa homothugs.

Keith,
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! Phillip Bleicher and his PR team have been trying to obfuscate the issue over at Jasmyne's and Bernie's websites. This is simply detestable and disgusting.

what next? the miami police dept have given 5 citations and they try to shut the sites down of jasmyne and bernie well known bloggers. But hey we got keith involved now so i know there will be change. Do what u can Keith. There is nothing wrong with porn its the unsafe practices that are being handled and the POWERS that be at Flavaworks needs to realize that. Living in the South Fl area i see the models all the time and they have a care free attitude about themselves. They all need a rude awakening. The full NBC 6 video is on my blog. once again kudos to Bernie, Jasmanye and Keith keep up the hard warm. Hopefully the suppoerts of CocoDorm wont fill up the comment box.

Your facts are untrue. Flava Works did not issue a cease and desist to ANYONE. Flava Works issued a DMCA notice to Jasmyne Cannick and Bernard Tarver because they were using copyright protected images of models from CocoDorm.com.
More importantly, they're running a story about HIV and STD's and showcased a picture next to it with three models implying that those models may be have an STD.
Flava Works believes in free speech, that is what our whole fight is, freedom to do what we want - or say what we want.

I'd bet (a lot) if they were using screenshots that sent wanted traffic to your site--rather than bringing to light the "less ideal" aspects of your operation--there woudn't have been a problem.

ok so is the chicago health department story true? that you have models that are HIv positive as well as have STDS come on here no matter what picture they used wrong is wrong and if flavaworks is practicing in unsafe practices you guys need to be shut down and of story. The HIV rates in Ft.lauderdale and Miami are to damn high. If you need HIV training or counseling i can do that for you guys. But get your acts together before start fighting with the big dogs who have more power than you. Keith Boykin, Bernie Tarver or Jasmaynne Cannick.

Flavaworks also believes in lying. You guys have said that your models engage in safe sex practices as per your instruction, but I've seen SEVERAL videos where that is NOT the case.
And while we're at it, let's get into the fact that you guys know that you have HIV-infected and Syphillis-infected models and you're not doing anything about it. And why did you guys run from the Chicago Department of Health when they were trying to let you know about the unsafe conditions? Why did you just up and go to Florida? Why not address the issues? Why not make sure these boys are safe? Why treat them like cattle? Why profit from their degradation and poor health? I guess because Phillip Bleicher makes too much money to care.

The stats at the end of your article are stunning--and sad. Almost half of these guys are HIV positive. These are young guys who, if they are not infected, are endangering the other young men who are "working" with them. That needs to be shut down. How many were infected while on the set? How many even know their status? I hope anybody who thinks of this porn industry as glamorous understands that is also deadly.

I remember seeing two of the Cocodorm vids last year and being mildly entertained. But even then, I thought, "they are doing some really risky stuff ... I've never seen this before." Some of it was downright gross, honestly. I also thought several of those guys looked unhealthy, which is why I was not surprised to read the reports that came out about them being infected with various STDs. What's sad is that we are getting no inkling of the PEOPLE behind all this bullshit. I'm sure there may be some of the boys who like the life of wild sex, but I suspect some of them may be there out of necessity and survival. A lot of people say it's their choosing, but you just never know what you'll have to do to make it, especially if you are young, unskilled and uneducated... and now sick. This is very tragic. I will be curious to see if any of them ever come forward. I also wonder if gay men care enough to not give these fuckers their business, or will they keep buying those DVDs.

Shut down FLAVA today so tomorrow they’ll rename themselves and get even more money from lives uneducated, uncared for & yes, unloved. Do these actors get compensated for the endless CDs, tapes and hype built on them? Hell no. Free speech & wrecking lives; tell me just how does that go together? What do you say to someone who hasn’t even had the chance to be that they are now HIV Positive & might need lifelong continuous medical care? A bulldozer to shut them down couldn’t be more apropos. (Here I go again) Keith, please let me know how & where I can help to help the young males of color trapped in this. Just a tip of the iceberg of destruction for males of color if we could only see & DO something about it. Thanks to Boykin, Jasmyne Cannick and B. Tarver. Something tells me there’s much more about this to uncover. Gotta go -I need to call a particular Health Dept. and as the kids say: Put some one & some thing on BLAST.

OMG how do you look unsafe? AIDS/HIV don't have signs some time but almost everything else is. Sir with all do respect, you can be walking around with the disease while posting this blog. Yall are posting these things about cocodorm like this is the main issue keeping AIDS/HIV afloat. It amazes me that I have yet to here someone say anything about everybody not using condoms and it amazes me how no seem to want to take about it unless its in a negative and pinpointed to one group. WAKE UP AMERICA WHITES BLACKS AND ASIANS. This disease does not discriminate. Cocodorm isn't the reason why bill down the street has an STD. Also you can always not look at volumes 1-9 of the videos just to come and make these comments. if you want muscular men they're sites for you. GOOGLE THEM!!! Also derrick are you suggesting that were using drugs because thats slander and i don't want to have to have to take you to court for making me look like a drug user. Also I'm naturally slim. The issues here are simple:
1. Is the business operating legally in the jurisdiction where it is located? (Obeying residential/commercial laws etc.; health codes & standards, etc.)
2. Are all employees (actors) at (or above) the age of consent?
3. Is there a grassroots effort in place targeting the minority gay adult industry to help educate, empower and inform individuals on how to work in this industry responsibly?
4. Is it our place to dictate to adults how they are allowed to share intimacy? Are we at liberty to insist that adult men wear condoms?
We really can’t half-step on this issue. Let’s have an open dialogue so that it doesn’t become an us-against-them scenario. Ultimately, we want what is best for our minority gay men – especially, our sometimes misdirected, misinformed and manipulated youngsters. By virtue of their popularity in our community (most of us have seen or know of Flavaworks) it’s obvious that the company is doing something that has somehow pulled our community in. Let’s t

deka: I do apologize. I needed to be reminded that there are real human beings in these videos/websites who are aware of what's being said about them and their work. But you must see that the other folks who've posted on this topic are truly concerned with your and your fellow performers' welfare.
And I should know the difference between "slender" and "skinny". Again, I apologize. But don't take me to court, darlin'. We may have to show one of your dvd's as evidence. We don't know how the judge would react.
Actually, I'd love to have a slender body like some of the young men in the "dorm" movies, except for the booty. I don't want no narrow ass. I've got to have some meat to sit down on...oh, there's a pun in there somewhere, aint it?

Every since the Chicago story was exposed, the whole organization seems utterly disgusting. Many of their clips/movies are rampant across the Internet. If you want to see guys of questionable ages sharing possibly-infected body fluids, watch 'em. It's sad. Someone mentioned that those guys are being used "like cattle". Sounds similar to American slavery...people treated like cattle to fatten the big pockets of the "massers". I am sad, because many of those guys probably have so many issues in their lives that they hadn't properly dealt with, that makes them more susceptible to involving themselves with such an organization. And then I am angry, wondering why in the hell are they putting themselves in danger just to fatten the CEO's pockets!!!! Can they not see that they are being exploited?! Maybe one day, they'll WAKE UP and say, "Why did I work from them clowns!"

Cocoa Rican:
But who is PROFITING? THAT is just as KEY to this discussion as any of the points you bring up. I would say that it's not the young (now unhealthy) black men. I would say it's Philip Bleicher.
As for you #4: Flavaworks' position is that these young men engage in fully-protected sex. But as you can see from the Chicago Department of Health's report, that is a bold-face lie. So you're fucking right it's US vs. THEM!

Why do they keep saying these guys are practicing safe sex? I've seen them barebacking, ejaculating in each other's mouths, pouring bowls of semen on each other, and even exchanging semen with kisses - all of which is dangerous. I don't know if they think most people have not seen these or what, but the stance that they practice safe sex is just not truthful. I just hope they get this under control before they start putting people outside of the business in danger.

Seriously this is the last comment,
I've had some time now since the airing of the broadcast to think, read and reply. Yes this is a post from a legitimate coco dorm model. I don't claim affiliation with any other post here but i thank you for your continued support.
Lets address some things and get them on the table.
Beef isn't over the fact that there are post of the Chicago story on your web pages, its in the fact that you in no way provided the final outcome of that case. That it was dropped.
Don't ensue a mob please. ( I'd like thank C. Baptiste-Williams for inclusion of that verdict)
Yes there were issues with some of the models testing positive for STD's. Yet that was on arrival to the dorm or during their stay in the dorm. Again your not providing the fact that the only way the city of Chicago could know these boys had anything was through testing, sponsored by the dorm and at the time what was thought as a reliable and confidential testing agency. So would these young men still have std's

regardless of their stay at the dorm? More than likely, only difference is they would not have known it, and to me that's worse because now their infected with disease and ignorance of that disease.
The issue with fleeing the scene of the crime. another one sided facts yes the dorm moved to Miami, but what wasn't mentioned was the fact that the lease was signed before the press release in Chicago and can be proven with receipts and contracts for office spaces that date as far back as January.
The issue with Philip Bliecher and the stealing of the charity money to fund his porn industry, Another case who officials long since abandoned. Did you know the issue in that case wasn't about porn at all but the use of what one agency considered their sole use of, a un-trademark name, the fact that Phil later went into porn didn't really help the situation, but was proven to be unassociated.

competitors, and a demand from the market. (In actuality this is a business). Not mentioned is, since its debut no other movie depicting unprotected sex has been produced by the company since. Furthermore those movies have not been shot in the Miami dorm house or with its models.
GENOCIDE: of all the claims here this has to be the one that made me really take notice. Now it really makes me wonder what is the true motivation behind some of these comments, do you honestly feel there is some form of genocide taking place here if so what kind? by meaning its the entire wiping out of a race or culture of people. Do you honestly see that happening. No not in the least. The guys who choose to come to the dorm do so for their own reasons and believe me they vary. No one is asked to pay for their ticket here or their ticket home it is covered by the company, along with food housing and mostly all expenses for R&R. As well as financial compensation for their time. Believe me some people will and do have bad experienc

here just like with any other profession or in real life, have you ever not like someone you work with? Did you want to do something and once you got right into it, you had second thoughts and reconsidered? Who hasn't. In cases like that the guys have options still. They can simply pay their return ticket (assuming they want to leave that day) or wait the required two weeks for their return ticket. (Advance tickets are more cost effective). Yet Neglected are the guys who come to the dorm have a great time, and more often that are begged to go back home. because they don't want to leave or even the guys who make more than one appearance at the dorm(this is to mirror the MTV version of a voyeared house and allow for new cast members)

Children in the Neighborhood, This seems to be the motivating drive behind the outcry for the dorm being shut down. Preservation of their innocence correct? In that same sense as I've stated before the sex is in a closed/controlled environment much like the one's you all dwell in with no harassment for the indulgence of your desire's. Kids don't come in the house. simple as that.
The new dorm and its residents are enjoying what we all consider our basic freedoms. We all are consenting discreet adults. Yes there is money being made, for god sakes it's America who doesn't have a way to make money off something that is considered common everyday occurrences. They found ways to charge for air (O2 bars) I honestly feel with advances in testing and the fact that these guys care whether or not they live or die should be the main topic here not the past. Is HIV/AIDS an epidemic because of the Dorm , NO should we as whole try to educate rather than berate?, Yes.

In closing i would only like to say, Porn isn't a demoralization of society more so we are the individuals who, when done safely act out the fantasies and desires of the people who purchase it. We are in no way demons or rejects of society and many of us are educated people. The only difference is we're just a lot more comfortable with our sexuality and hence not bound by conservative restrictions.

Oh goodness, where is the outcry over Treasure Island Media? Or countless amateur porn party videso where none of the participants are compensated. Kenneth,
To begin, when these allegations first arose, Flavaworks LIED and denied the charges. They INSISTED that each and every one of their models practiced safe sex. That was a lie. Second, now that Flavaworks has been informed of the situation, they aren't taking any measures to educate their personnel. They are relying on "these young men should know better" to absolve themselves of any responsibility. Flavaworks essentially gave these young men the guns and the bullets an made sure the gun was pointed at the young men's heads before saying, "if you pull the trigger, it's not my problem." Third, this is of particular interest to me because I am a gay black man. It appears to me that Phillip Bleicher is exploiting young black men for profit. Some might say that you cannot exploit the willing. But I say you certainly can when the willing lack education and self-esteem.

Alex Flex, thanks for providing your perspective from the "inside". We are indeed on the outside looking in, and we base our comments on what we read, hear, and see. And I am still not convinced that we are totally off base. For me, as well as many others, the issue is not about your decision to do porn. That's your choice. What we are concerned with is seeing our young brothas doing dangerous things to make others rich. Yes, here in America, we have to make money to survive, but we definitely should not compromise our health, soul, and integrity just for the Benjamins. In the long run, that will create a LOT of emotional distress, even while the bank account may be fat. I wouldn't sell my soul down river for no amount of money. It's not worth it. In reality, some of those guys who were indeed infected by those bareback movies will probably not be here 10 yrs. from now. They sacrificed their lives for the CEO's bank acct. Be well.

I dont' watch gay porn but I can't imagine that most of you ask for a refund or turn off the tv when these guys are fucking raw. In fact, I'm sure most like it.
All companies should be held accountable for not promoting safe sex. However, people should have enough sense to use protection. There's dual responsibility here and the porno industry is in the business of making money..not promoting HIV awareness.
Just let's not try and act as if our dollars don't make this possible. It's the consumer who keeps any business-in business.
Robert Jones, Jr.
May 10 2007, 6:26PM
That's why, Midwest Guy, we're proposing a BOYCOTT. And come off the bogus argument that says oppression is not really oppression if there's an economic benefit. That Flavaworks has an economic incentive to create the situation which has led to these young men being infected with HIV doesn't make their crime any less heinous and egregious, nor does the young men's complicity.
MidwestGuy
May 10 2007, 6:39PM
Robert did you bother to read where I clearly wrote that all companies [of this kind] should promote safe sex AND that there is a dual responsibility.
I don't believe either of those even remotely suggests that I am absolving the company from it's responsibility.
Hopefully the boycott (which I doubt) will work. But I moreso hope that these men participating in such acts will take their lives into their own hands. That's in all facets...sex parties, gay vacations, online sex, etc. Yes, flava should be held accountable but they aren't the direct cause of the problem.

I think we all agree that Flava Works has truly gone too far if they have lied and tried to intimidate the American free press and the right to free speech.
You're right Troy...but I guess I'm also looking for howELSE this is different. People unknowingly transmit sexaully transmitted diseases within social networks of all kinds--even today. For even when there was no cure for any STD, human beings continued to have unprotected sex. I am not a porn star, and I have HIV.
Even if I were, at 35 years of age I would have to make a conscious decision to have unprotected sex--being HIV+ or not. With what I've seen in my life, it's hard for me to draw the lines that distinguish a "sex scandal..." I promise I'll write that book!

Where were you when HIV in the straight porn industry recevied NATIONAL attention in 2005 when two straight actos were found to be infected? I remember CNN doing a whole report. So I don't think there's a double standard at all.

As a former employee of flavaworks i can only state what i KNOW. The issues of past activities is just that...in the past. The Raw Thugs Series was not in any part produced in Miami. The unsafe practices that were once a part of the company were realized thanks in large part to the community reaction. With that said they did listen, and reacted accordingly. Now they are resurfacing as if they are still commom practices. Which i assure you they are not. As for the messages that are forth coming... i am not nor have i ever been a model. I specifically stated former employee. I know without a doubt that any unsafe activities are strictly against the rules of the dorm. This "scandal" is the result of a unknown person sending unsolicited packets to neighbors and the media. Has any of you taken the time to think that this may be an act of vengance, and that you are fueling the fire to something you KNOW absolutely nothing about. I speak of only what i know. Can you say the same?

Shame on you for not seeing what this is all about.I find no fault with Flavaworks. They have continuously expressed they do not condone unsafe sex practices.Their screening and hiring disease-free models seems to be quite adequate.
What this all boils down to is nothing but vicious hatred.Be it originating from a nasty competitor in the same type of porn biz,or a disgruntled former employee who didn't mind showing his naked black ass on cam during his stay at Cocodorm.

I've always held Keith Boykin's site in the highest esteem for its fair and accurate reporting of condition effecting our community -- until today.
This knee-jerk reaction to Jeff Burnside's salacious though wildly misdirected report ominously titled 'The House Next Door' is as fair and accurate as BET's BS expose on the DL man. Same stink. Different sh*t.
There are so many things FACTUALLY wrong its not funny. But lets start with the CHI-town report. From what I've learned, that report failed to mention that those tested were guys APPLYING for admittance to CocoDorm. And that those who tested positive for STD's were forbidden to engage in sex and most were sent home.
And considering the sad national HIV stats for black gay men (as Keith well knows), is it so shockingly off the mark?
Flavaworks Has Gone Too Far! -- Nice, Keith, the National Enquirer would be proud.

Kwesi..that's why I made it a point to say "gay porn" as opposed to the Flava site/videos. I doubt that people who buy porn when there's barebacking "dislike it." The fact that these types of sexual acts have been going on in pornos for some time now is enough proof that "most" like it. That is those who watch it. So I believe my statement about those who like it is a reasonable one and it not a gross assumption. A gross assumption would be "all gays are promiscious." There is evidence (sales receipts) to support the former...not the later...

Let's move to another part of this report. The cops being called five times since September. From what I've learned, not true. They were only called twice, and that was for the unfortunate incident which I labeled on my blog 'Fags Gone Wild'. But since then changes have been made.
As for the unsafe sex. Yes, this is a problem. But not with Flavaworks. Just ask any ghetto baby mama. Yes, they did a series called Raw Thugs which I railed against and advocated a boycott of. The series has long since been discontinued, and none of that series was shot in FL. Old news. I guess some of you still think Bill Clinton is no good because of a certain intern. Let it go, take a breath, and let the real issue here marinate in your brain.
Brown boys fcuking each other in the butt is what really gets peoples dander up. And our advocates are being misdirected by the hype to fight for the enemy.
Robert Jones, Jr.
May 10 2007, 8:26PM
What gets my dander up Taylor, speaking strictly as a brown boy who f*cks other brown boys in the butt, is Flavaworks' complicity in the degradation of these young men's health. And yes, I've heard the opposing argument about no one forcing them to have raw sex. And I'll say again, that doesn't excuse Flavaworks' part in it.
Wow! You Flava guys are really trying to silence the criticism and opposition anywhere you can find it, huh? Look at you: trying to save your blood money. Good. That means the word is getting out despite your best efforts.

All Right that is it, i have had it i expected this from either the news stations or perhaps the "haters" from Miami, but from you Keith c'mon, As i posted on Jasmyne's blog, this is a ratings for all the newstations because of the tv shows are ending for the summer. As if the folks of Flavaworks has enough drama for one day. If these men were white, they would not be a issue at all. Why can't they address that the city of Miami happens to be #1 in Crime,Rape,Homeless,Murder, Gangs,Drugs and more STD"S than the state of Georgia(i live in Atlanta)
WAKE UP AMERICA AND KEITH, THERE ARE DOING THEIR DAMM JOBS!!!! I have been on their website on the past and from my viewing experience, the models have always used condoms and when they did they "Raw Thugs" they they not put a warning to their fans that no matter what to continue to practice safe sex(and that warning is on the DVD's, just in case that no one saw it!) For these men it is not easy to surive out here in this poor yet cruel world)

And why didn't this reporter investigate the anonymous person who littered the neighborhood with porn packets 'altruistically' alerting folks that butt-fcuking was afoot? Who would benefit from that I wonder?
This package, thrown from a car like a newspaper (containing a DVD of the CocoDorm fight, pictures from the site, etc.), landed in the yards of the very children they allege to want to protect.
C'mon people. Who's the real criminal here?
And all this bull about a white man making money off black men, well guess what, atop damn near every American enterprise is a white man racking in the dough. Get over it, or do something to change it, but please stop whining about it.

i personally think its a travesty and injustice when black businesses are targeted by the media and it's own race for performing the same acts as the white production company. if you going to target flava then target them all. it so sad that we as people allow other forces and devices to seperate us and keep us at odds with each other. the individuals that are in the videos are adults and they made an adult decision and consented to those decisions. who are you or anyone else to decide what is appropriate or inappropriate.. the Bible saids it so eloquently "he who is without sin, cast the first stone.." if you are practicing the same acts in the privacy of your home, you are no better than the guys who are practicing those acts on the video. so unless your name is St. Peter i think you should re-evaluate your attacks on someone else life.

What is with the double standard? Why is are the majority of people attacking cocodorm or even gay porn for that matter? should n't we attack straight porn as well?I watch a lot of straight porn and i am gay ,and I rarely see a guy wear a condom banging women.Sure there are risks involved having unprotected sex.To me its all about commom sense that these companies get their models tested and encouraged them to have safe sex,but I have no problem with gay adult companies praticeing bareback porn.why do we call it barebacking any way ,staight people don't say barebacking when they want to !@#$ without condoms.Don't get me wrong I believe in safe sex its what we all should do.

I'm not saying this is a double standard, I'm just trying to figure out whether everyone is outraged at the way they do business as it relates to the law or if everyone is outraged at the possible transmission of STDs. If it's the latter, then there is a double standard. Not because of what happens in the industry, but because of what happens every day regardless of basis for people having sex.
It doesn't take a camera to make the spread of disease more or less likely. I say if guys want to have sex for a living, they are making the choice to engage the risk of the occupation. If these young men are at least 18 years of age, they are making choices as adults in an age where safe sex and STD information is copious.
At what is the real outrage? Y'all don't hear me... :-(

... no one is more complicit in our degradation than us. Hasn't Cosby, once we got past being pissed, taught us anything?
When I was a young gay boy I resisted the invitations to do porn, mostly because I was terrified it would come back to haunt me (or that my mother would see it). Why do these guys do what they do? Millions of reasons I'm sure. But whatever reason, its their choice. Just like its ours whether to watch. I know I like to watch on occasion. You probably do to. And the thought of the sex-police gives me the willies.
I always call a spade a spade. From what I see so far, all the charges are bogus, and the ones that are slightly true are slanted for salacious high-ratings impact (May sweeps and all that). Bottomline. That reporter is already off to another headline (at least he hasn't returned my calls).

If the people at FlavaWorks had any brains they would know to stop posting dumb comments on blogs. They keep embarrassing themselves time and time again. They keep running to the Freedom of Speech defense, but that's the oldest trick in the book when their company is clearly irresponsible. If they wanted to run a legit business they would do oral swab testing a few days before the shoot and urine testing for various STD's then when they got the full results they would scan and convert to pdf all the doc's and proof of clean bills of health from each model and then do their shoot. Then when things that came into questions like does X model have HIV or an STD they could easily go into their files pull up their last testing records and show anyone who questioned anything their certified doctors records.
But that's if they where smart and they are clearly stupid. So the best thing for them to do is to shut up, admit their wrong doing, and move on or revise the business model and business operations.

I think this whole situation is ludicrous in many ways.Would we be having this discussion if it was straight porn? and men and women engaging unprotected sex in a residential neighborhood?, I doubt it.would the police be puting in citations in dorms and in some fraterniy parties? give me a break and what about all these non black websites that host sexparties on the internet and they very well could possibly be in neighborhoods and public places. wheres the outrage in that? we seem to ridicule this one particular company when it so happends to be black and gay when their are many companies do the same thing or even worse.

Ok this conversation has gotten quite STRANGE! Taylor I have no idea what "ghetto" baby mammas have to do w/a business possibly providing a haven for the spread of diseases. Having babies don't kill...disease does. I doubt very seriously that people are concerned about brown boys get'n fucked. You wish. There is no divide/conquor here. If black gay men aren't concerned about havens where black gay men are possibly spreading disease then who exactly do you expect to be concerned? White gay men? Black straight men? That is irrespective of the porno whores who may willingly engage in such acts. Not models but whores. Those who run the sites are pimps.
Jobs have and will always be scarce. Prostitution should never be an excuse for not getting a damn job. That is unless you suffer from some form of clinical instability.

May sweeps was a reference to the tabloid-style report that's got you so riled-up. And baby mamas has everything to do with spreading disease. High pregnancy rates mean more raw sex. Get it.
The problem is wide-spread. But Flavaworks has made strides to get past its 'Raw Thugs' history. The dorm isn't spreading diseases any faster than we are on the outside. The numbers are consistent.

The alleged incident's that surrounded the Chicago Dorm were both sad and unfortunate, however I believe those matters have been address with that company and it's management. The dorm that I've personally lived in was in no way the picture that these slanderous reporters/competitors/and or Ex-model's or trying to paint . Along side of having to present Std result we were consistently reminded of safe sex practices and how they go hand and hand with the company /provided with safe sex educational brochures/ and even prohibited from engaging in any "High Risk Activity "(sexual contact) with people outside the dorm.
I would like to address the issue of Coco dorm exploiting young Black and Latin men. In adult entertainment there is bond to be exploitation that is what adult entertainer's are paid to do, willingly and legally sexually exploit their self's for the entertainment of others. To say me and my co-workers are in anyway being exploited is bogus and untrue we are compensated accordingl

HOW DARE YOU.
The whole incident is a soggy attempt bye competitors to slander Coco dorm and it's models for their personal gain. People will do anything to see you fall. But it wont work………..

Hmmm, I was compelled to write a statement in response to all the allegations and insanity surrounding the COCODORM. As a former model and Dorm Manager I have intimate knowledge of inner workings of the company and its practices. I was treated fairly; I never felt a sense that I was exploited in any way. I am an educated black who has lived all over the world. My decision to do porn was fueled by my desire to do something different and exciting. I did not go into the situation with blinders on! I was at the dorm in Chicago when all the initial insanity started. I remember going to get tested and with a couple of the boys. One of the prevention advisors was seeking information on the practices of the dorm. At the time, I was not aware of his intentions. Once I left the dorm, I learned of the allegations the Chicago Department of Health was making against the company. I laughed, because I thought it was so far from reality. Basically, if your business is sex why would you not care about the health

of your models? Fast forward to my second trip to the dorm in October 2006; fun in Miami. Once again I had a fantastic time! In December I was offered the position of Dorm Manager. My immediate task was to change some misconcepts about the dorm; regulate and get some order. I was very successful while managing the dorm. The members where happy with the changes; everything was running smoothly. One day we discovered packages that contained slanderous material on all of our neighbors door steps, then later the news came knocking. From that point, nothing but insanity and allegations followed. I have personally received many calls and emails from friends inquiring about what really happened. So, I decided to give a little personal timeline. I'm not going to weigh in on one side or another because people will believe what they want. Everyone in this has an agenda! Troy,
I'm confused; as I stated my experience was pleasant. There was no internal conflict for me, because all of the models were consenting adults who signed contracts. During each initial interview I explained in detail compensation; there was never any deceit on my part. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am an upfront person who makes no excuses for his actions, if anyone says that I deceived them then they are welcome to try to prove it and then I will produce 10 more models who still call me and are still cool with me. While in charge of the dorm I fostered a close and safe environment. GOD will judge us all in the end; do you have any skeleton's in your closet Troy?! Dont answer it because i would, i feel like instead of investigating it people would be trying to get it and see whats going on not only that but probably asking for a job to get in on so of the action.Even if it is a gay porn house, are they doing it outside on the side walk so everyone can see, are they promoting in the neighborhood going door to door asking if men want to come and work for them. Whoever sent the tape in is probably someone who got rejected and now their bitter. And the whole situation about practing safe sex is just dumb and retarded why would someone want to go make a porn with a company that doesnt practice safe sex, thats dumb on thier part. Kwesi, for someone who's so adamant against supporting the sexual exploitation of black men by whites for profit, you seem to know an awful lot about what goes on in Cocodorm!
And who are you to legislate what is "disgusting" and what isn't...? Semen is a natural part of sex. I'm sure most of your sexual experiences aren't so antiseptic... Do you wear a dental dam before you kiss your partner too?
If you're old enough to act in porn, you're old enough to take responsibility for the for your sexual experiences... Your entire tone is really condescending and play into a White Man's Burden idealogy that black men are somehow of a less sophisticated and intelligent breed that must be saved from themselves...
I continue to wonder where is the outrage over much more ubiquitous "barebacking" in straight porn which also utilizes young black men...

Kwesi..gay men or straight women on film filling their mouths w/cum is absolutely disgusting. I don't disagree w/you there. Semen in mouths is not a "natural" part of sex. If ANY person is doing that on film or w/random partners then they too are a whore. That's just gutter trash. I believe that gay sex is more risky than hetero sex because gay men are less likely to feel inclined to use a condom. So to act as if gay men shouldn't be concerned about other gay men potentially spreading diseases is such a ridiculously juvenile argument.
White men's burden ideology? Are you freaking serious? I wouldn't expect heterosexual men to be overly concerned w/the lives of gay men no more than I would expect gay men the same. In a perfect world..yes.
Is it straight men who are walking in lockstop w/gay advocates during these gay parade/pride thingy's? Of course not. So why are we expecting gay men to protest straight porn?

"...gay men are less likely to feel inclined to use a condom..."
MidWestGuy:
Are you talking about oral sex? When it comes to anal penetration, I believe most gay men (black, white, Asian, Latino, butch, queen, drag queen) are using condoms--at least from what I've witnessed (don't ask me where/how/why?--there are places such as Malcolm X Park, Prospect Park, Philly's Gay Acres where one can be a witness, ok). Yes, the 47% rate of infection among black men is staggering; but it would be even higher if it wasn't for the use of condoms by so many black gay men. Only the reckless are barebacking. And if the majority of us are that reckless then we aint worth saving.
Even if I'm wrong, straight guys are the ones who are less likely to put on a condom--especially the ones in the "hoods" around this country (I've witnessed that too. Don't ask me how/when/where?).

I am a contacted videographer that has worked for FlavaWorks and have also directed and video taped most of the video footage from the Miami dorm, and can vouch that I "HAVE NEVER" seen or allowed any unsafe sexual activity both on or off the set. If a model goes outside of the dorm and does something sexually on their own time it would be the same thing as them doing it in their home town or anywhere else, but within the walls of the dorm there was and is a zero tolerence for any form of unprotected or unsafe sex at FlavaWorks PERIOD.

DPhil..we'll just have to disagree on that one. My statment wasn't an indictment. It was merely a reasonable observation that gay men don't have to worry about impregnating another man. So "reasonably" I'm inclined to believe that gay men (tops) are less likely to use a condom and bottoms are less likely to ask than their heterosexual counterparts. The key here is less likely
Batman With all the news going on..starving kids, homeless people etc., why exactly are you defending (on this website, on this day) a ridiculous porno site again?

Well, Taylor, I for one have nothing against the "dorm" boys, other than the fact that its a white man spreading the use of the n-word, which, I'm sure you also find nothing wrong with, but, that's your choice, not mine, its vulgar in any connotation and perpetuating a negative image of young, apparently, desperate, clueless black men. But, don't come out about a "sex-police" there is no such thing, since when the HIV infected guys are begging for help, the owner of the site and posters like you will be the first to ignore their plight.
They are free to do as they want, but, I don't see why people encourage unsafe sexual practices to make a white man rich, well, I assume he is, even though those "boyz" are, how do I say this, kind of not attractive to look at for free, so, just who is paying to see them?
And, the owner needs to knock off the threats, if he is doing this within the law, why all the shade? His site, while nasty to me, apprently isn't to others who pay.

Flav works is a modern day brothel and this Phil guy is a pimp. we tell our kids a pimp is a guy in a purple suit driving a caddy. Pimps come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. in fact, the most successful pimps look like wall street businessmen.
we have to teach our kids about living a safe life. stds as well as hiv can be prevented and nobody body should be contracting those diseases in 2007. i wonder if those kids would make the same decisions if they wasn't drugged up and drunk out of their heads.
we need to tell our kids porn, prostitution or selling drugs is not a way to make money. all these horny drugged up kids aren't in control of there actions and this fool is watching and encouring them kill themselves. as black men we ought to get a up an angry fire wielding mob and protest then burn that house down.

I think back to a time when Mapplethorpe this artschool photographer decided to take nude pics of black men. Every coffee table held his books yet no one applauded or raged about the eventual death, due to AIDS, of one of it's key black male models of color. Sad to say the camera man died too. But what if someone stepped in to care or to highlight the situation -would it have mattered?
How much does it really cost to party?

Christopher:
Unfortunately, black American women have the highest increase of HIV infection in this country. Black gay men are not infecting black women 'cause black gay men don't have sex with black women. Now, maybe some of them other kind of homos (dls and such)may have sex with black women, but it's even questionable whether they are infecting black women.
Black women are getting HIV from men who are not honest about their sexuality AND DRUG USE, and by these women not insisting their partners use condoms--HEY! That's probably the same way that 47% of black gay males got infected!

You are allowing these poor foolish drug and alcohol induce lil boys to catch hiv and std's on video and you think because they are over 18, it is ok. Sad, thinking from a grown man. As a man you are suppose to protect our young, not allow other to exploit them. Isn't it true that Keith Boykin and all these other righteous bloggers attacking Flava are motivated by the fact that Flava is headed by a white man? Why are there never similiar attacks on Pitbull, Tiger Tyson, Tyson Cane, Big City etc? The stats are relevant to the community as a whole, not just to Cocodorm. Anyone who's seen Cocodorms will see that the models are usually pretty confident, assertive young men. Why do they keep coming back time after time if it's so awful? Everybody and their mama has thrown in a thought or two in reaction to your 'overreaction'. Now its time for a rebuttal.

Mr Boykin, nobody is perfect but i hold you in the highest regard Keith, friend and my proud Brotha. you are a man of principle and you sincerely stick and stand up to what you believe in. when the practises at cocodorm first broke, you were at the forefront of letting the community know and i wouldn't expect any less from you. why focus on this, because young black men from our community are involved and being exploited and we need to care about them before any other pornographers in whatever position. some leading, intelligent black gay bloggers have opted to stay away from the controversy and accept blood money from flavawork's white boss by advetising his merchandise on their blogs; and anyone who makes a comment about in, is barred from doing so (Rod2.0 and Frank leon) though Frank once attempted to explain his affiliation with that white man enslaving some of our desparate people. it was all for very selfish reasons and i told him so.

With all of this STD and morality ramble ..I really cannot tell the difference from straight homophobes who assume that just ALL gays in general are AIDS carrying immoral vessels. Now that it happens on camera it gets seems to be pinpointed for this seems unfair to me. Why not Treasure Isle,Big City, and others ? Now if the fault in question really is for business practices then that should be emphasised as much but if that is being overshadowed and trumped to the fact that these men (those of you who've seen those models know they look like NOthing can exploit them that easy) are having sex..Then welcome to homophobia 101. Hate and be appalled that men are lying with one another.

once again someone else is asking, why not others? because others don't use 18 year old black BOYS to have anal sex without condoms, them have some infected participants ejaculate into a bowl or their mouths, have them gargle the cum in their mouths, share that out to the rest of the models and then all swallow every drop. the final blow (no pun) is that they don't get paid for it, they are provided with shelter, meals and a basic allowance for their drug habits no doubt and the white man keeps all the money for himself. ps. not 5 star accomodation, not gourmet meals. why are you finding it difficult to comprehend that as a black man?

THURSDAY: PILLS, PILLS, PILLS
I take eight pills a day for HIV, and I usually take my morning set with a piece of toast before I walk out the door. But I was rushing today—flying out to the Ryan White National Youth Conference in Portland, Oregon—and I couldn’t do it until I got to the airport. Some folks were staring like they never saw somebody take medicine before. I’m not shy about taking my meds in public. Maybe it will help other young, positive people take care of themselves.
But I haven’t always been so good. When I first started meds, I had diarrhea, dizziness, tiredness and vomiting for two months straight. I didn’t really stick with it, so I became resistant to a drug I was taking at the time. My viral load shot up, and my T cells dropped from 350 to 215, leaving me open to serious infections. That scared me into doing things right.

ONE PARTICULAR INCIDENT OCCURRED WHERE THE GUYS DID NOT DO A GROUP SCENE SEX SHOW AND THE NEXT MORNING WHERE ALL KICKED OUT ON THE STREET. MOST HAVING NOWHERE TO GO BEING THAT THEY WERE FROM OTHER CITIES AND WHERE FLOWN THERE BY FLAVA WORKS.
DURING THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO KEEP IN CONTACT WITH THE INDIVIDUAL I KNEW. HE TOLD ME THEN THAT FLAVA WORKS NEVER HELD UP THEIR MONETARY PORTION OF THE CONTRACT AGREEMENT AND TREATED THEM LIKE LOW CLASS BLACK MEN. OFTEN PROVIDING THEM WITH DRUGS (FROM WEED TO CRACK COCAINE) TO SUBSIDIZE THEIR AGREED UPON PAYMENTS.
IN A LOT OF CASES, THE GUYS IN THE DORM WERE FORCED TO HAVE SEX WITH PEOPLE THEY ELECTED NOT TO AND WAS DEGRADED, BELITTLED & THREATENED TO BE KICKED OUT ON THE STREETS.

On the Ebonymale link that Robert Jones posted, PIMP says, "When I tested positive in December 2001 at age 18..." PIMP is in Raw Thugz 1. The earliest date of production says March 2003. So, something does not add up. Did he do bareback scenes even though he knew he was HIV positive? If so, FlavaWorks obviously did not test anyone b4 shooting those condomless scenes, right? Or is the guy on the Ebonymale site really not the same guy who is called PIMP in Flavaworks videos? Sure does look like him but just wanna be sure. Clarification would be appreciated.
If that is truly him and those vids were shot after Dec. 2001, wouldn't it be possible that more of those guys might be HIV positive now? And while they will be faced with medical problems in the future, how much will FlavaWorks care? Is FlavaWorks providing health insurance? I doubt it. Like many have expressed, this is clearly a case of exploitation. Sad.

While I am very late to this thread it is one of the worst I have ever seen. So much ignorance and spite from the pro Flava Works side. By all means we should allow our gay and bi sexual youth of any race to blithely go ahead and contract HIV and other STD's. Old heads like me (47) well remember the plague days when so many of our friends and family were cut down at an early age. Today's youth don't understand the ramifications of HIV. They think it's just taking a bunch of pills, without realizing the awful side effects of some of the pills. These youth need our guidance without condemnation. We do need to strive to educate them so they can make better decisions about their lives.

Luddite,
The pro-Flavaworks side has a vested interest in this argument; that is why they're so persistent. This is their livelihood at stake. They don't want a discourse or dialogue; they want to silence their opposition (which is quite odd since they keep siting the first amendment, free speech and free enterprise). On my blog and elsewhere, my detractors implore me to be silent, drop it, focus on something else, mind my own business, shut up, or stop hating. And every time they do, I'm even more inclined to speak out. So, I welcome the attempts. : )
You bring up an interesting point: I wonder if Flavaworks provides insurance for the young men infected during the course of making Flavaworks movies.

Seems to me like 95% + of all comments and postings here and everywhere else on the internet for that matter are running in opposition to COCODORM, Bleicher, Wiley and FLAVA WORKS' practices of explotation, abuse and denegration of the Models. It doesn't surprise me since this is one of the most unscrupulous groups to ever enter the adult entertainment industry. They have done the same thing in Brazil, Dominican Republic and all over the USA, when it comes to promising the models the world and delivering them into hell. C MACK for one should be ashamed of himself...he knows the real truth and should join us in a class-action lawsuit which I am mounting (Only problem is that Bleicher has already secured some domain names to prevent others from key words with COCODORM, class action, etc...) but we will come up with another domain name for all those affected to register with....hell, I just might turn over www.whatstea.com for this purpose since Bleicher tried to contact me to "work together"...

This has all the makings of a carefully elaborated and funded setup to smear the black gay community.
Pay attention to how it is all unfolding; with the anonymous tipper, the false pretext of slavery, and all those cocodorm "haters" popping out of nowhere with their morality signs ready to push your comment counter to 142.
The only goal of it all:
To attack the black community and INCITE them into homophobia (under a false pretext of protecting their honor and ending AIDS.)
But that is all to USE you to go about and publicize this as being the reality of the black gay community, when it's a problem within the multi billion porn industry problem.
Whichever group is behind this smear campaign does not have our interest in mind. So don't give them any ammunitions, as there'll probably be more such attacks in the future.

Here's a great comment from another blog supporting my viewpoint:
"Secondly, I must agree with you. As a gay white man it really seems odd to me that this is happening and how it's unfolding. I think it is a set up by some LEA's or some other puppets of Bush or the (IM)Moral Majority.
There appear to be quite a lot of attacks going on with gay themed companies recently. I'm sure there will be more as time goes on, and The Latino Fan Club will be next or perhaps another white company, but it is an all-out attack on the gay community. I can only hope that my black gay brothers will pull together and fight this, rather than self-destruct and turn against their white brothers and each other."
Do pay attention y'all.
More of the "Gay Voodoo Limbo Tango and Wango Dance" and Matt Sanchez types of attackers will likely set out against us. They might look like us, but they are NOT a part of us.

Oprah urges Howard grads to serve others
Sat May 12, 5:44 PM ET
WASHINGTON -
"My integrity is not for sale, and neither is yours," Winfrey said at graduation ceremonies Saturday for Howard University, recalling times when she was under pressure to change course or avoid topics to boost ratings or appease advertisers. "Do not be a slave to any form of selling out."
Winfrey recalled how early in her career at a TV station in Baltimore, executives told her she was "too black" and "too emotional." She said they tried to have her TV name changed to something more recognizable, but she refused.
Finally, Winfrey was put on a talk show, she said, to run out her contract.
"And that was the beginning," she told 30,000 people who crowded onto the Howard campus.
Winfrey drew repeated big cheers from the moment she took the stage. She called

"Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they usually only matter to their owners"
In discourse it's much easier to convey an ideal verbally than it is in print. There is no way that you can fit in every point and defense that you'll need for those determined to portray you in a bad light. You can go back and forth until the cows come home, what really matters in life is what you do. All that's happening at the moment is a bunch of verbal masturbation at how well you think you can type something and end it with a clever closing statement. To ALL the message posters, ask yourself if all your doing is typing your outrage onto some (with respect to the owners) innocuous blog, how much change are you really affecting?
I am neither condoning or condemning the dorm place, cause in the end what does my morality matter to them? I’m just someone who works with troubled youth everyday at a gay and lesbian center, and I mean EVERYDAY, with kids that are homeless because their fathers raped them

and the family didn’t believe them to kids with veins so destroyed from shooting up that they resort to sticking needles in the flesh under their eyeball to get high. How many of the problems of the world can be resolved if people just stopped talking about it and did something? If you’re more than just an "armchair activist", understand that you're point has been made in print in these blogs and no more can be done in that arena. And I’m applying this to ALL the posters.
Now get up and go do something more. Move your bones and be active and make change. Become a stick or a stone. Because we all know that words will never (in the long run), hurt anyone
Notice the clever closing statement there?

i've seen two recurring points in these comments. 1. flava works is promoting unsafe practices and 2. people are concerned with the safety of the young boys who are being exploited on cocodorm.com.
most people should know that goal of porn is not to promote anything. it's there for ppl to get off. to provide a fantasy so the customers can "release." yes, some people get sex ideas from porn, but it's that personal's choice and responsibility to know what their limits are and what they are comfortable with doing in their own sex lives. porn sites can't and shouldn't come into people's rooms and put condoms on or make them get tested, therefore they aren't responsbile for any STD epidemic.
as for the safety and welfare of these young boys, this site doesn't kidnap and enslave them to peform on the site. the site hosts applicants or "wannabes" and let users vote as to who they want to see in the dorm. Maybe these boys are lost and came from broken homes, but a lot of people have sad stories, so...

Legal,
So...
Should porn companies exploit the people with sad stories? Even if they're willing to be exploited? Where is the line between human and animal; between profit and depravity?
And should those of us who are concerned just say: "Oh, well it's porn. Whatever happens is absolutely permissible"? I say, not if we have a conscience.

Vasean,
Interesting point. When issues arise, we have to converse about it. That's just natural. I may be naive, but I believe there might be many folk who'd love to make a difference while "masturbating verbally", as you put it. So many posts, articles, conversations, etc. all lack something - solutions for folk to tackle the issues that plague our community. At times, the issues seem so astronomical, that we often wonder what can we possibly do to make a difference. On top of the fact that we have to constantly deal w/ articulately stupid folk who'll sabotage things, or who'll be against what you're trying to do because they disagree with your views w/o seeing the
