BREAKING NEWS -- A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing 33 people and wounding several others before he was killed, according to the Associated Press. Earlier reports from the police indicated that 21 people had been killed but the death toll rose throughout the day. "Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," said university president Charles Steger. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified."
The media reported that it was the deadliest shooting in American history. Once again, we are reminded that violence is too prevalent in our society. I pray for the families and friends of those who were injured or killed today.

Hearing about this just broke my heart. I don't know what this world is coming to. And to think I thought everything was back to "normal" when I woke up this morning to more Anna Nicole "News" and Madonna baby drama.

now that this tragic incident has happedned, will they blame "white america" for promoting the violence in their movies, or is it only when the words "ho,bitches" are used do we blame its roots.

Really sad to hear this. My brother attended V-Tech and it is one of the most beautiful campuses around. Unfortunately, it is one of the ost racist schools around too, which is why he left (this was in the 80's). I'm surprised it took this long for someone to snap down there. Word is the gun man was Asian and that he was looking for his girlfriend. Of course, you don't have to shoot up the whole school to find her, do you? I wouldn't be surprised if this guy was the victim of racial harassment at V-T and decided to even a few scores on his way out. Really sad. Only in America.

You are right johnsahon. Maybe I should say in Only in America do we kill off a dozen or more people because we are having a bad day, some girl dumped you or someone stepped on your foot. At least in Iran, they do it in the name of God. I mean if you have to be murdered, it might as well be for a good cause.

We are living in the last and evil days. May God bless their families and friends. You never know how your day is going to end.

Has anyone taken notice that mass killings such as the one which happened today seem to always take place in April coinciding with the occasion of Hitler's birthday. Recall Columbine High School killings which took place around the same time back in April of 1998. It’s been noted that a lot of deranged Whites celebrate Hitler by committing such atrocities. Adolf Hitler's birthday is 20 April 1889.

First my condolences to the VA Tech kids and families... This was a tragedy...
Now, jump to the Washington DC local news...
There are at least 30 colleges and universities in the Baltimore/Washington/NorthernVA area...the news is reporting that HOWARD, the only HBCU featured in the local news today, has the DCPD "showing a heavy presence on campus..." There are no reports of a crime or threat. This news bit about Howard is woven into the "local reaction" to the VA tech segment. Why are the cops all over Howard's campus, not acting, just "showing force and presence"? The story at Howard did not include mourning students, no reassuring report on their campus security unit, no flags lowered and compassionate statements from students and staff like the bits on other local campuses. As the segment ends, the camera zooms in on several Black students with books walking around cop cars, apparently trying to get to class... This story seems to assure the public that this "police presence" will discourage Black co

Ash- I totally agree with you on the connection between April 20 and these school shootings. I think all schools should start beefing up security around this date.
I feel for the victims and the perpetrator and I pray for all their souls. I pray for the victims that they would have have not faced their pain; and I pray they are with the Lord. I pray for the perpetrator's soul. You have to wonder what will happen to you after you shot 33 people? The person may have got their revenge, but I feel sorry for that poor soul.
But I feel as a society we have neglected the issue of school violence. When it happens at a black or hispanic school we blame their culture, their music. However, when it takes place at a white school we dont blame the culture of white people. I wonder how this story will play out.
But again pray for all of them that were killed, including the perpetrator.

Maybe now the politicians will agree that there needs to be tougher gun control laws in this country. If not, they are more blind and/or clueless to social ills than they usually are.

Looks like at least one of the victims was "family".

Ash, I've noticed this connection too.
The Oklahoma City Bombing of the Federal building happened on April 19, 1995.
168 were killed in that attack.
I believe a connection to Hitler's birthday was made at that time.

@nDC-what difference does it make that he was "family"...and who really cares....the man is dead...murdered. The "family" reference has no place here...i swear you "punks" make everything a "gay" issue.

"i swear you "punks" make everything a 'gay' issue"
I don't know what Mr Clark's sexual orientation was and neither does the press, and in this tragedy, you're right, it doesn't matter. But the "family" reference is absolutley relevant to this blog. This blog welcomes the opinions and concerns of black gay people.
There will be six or seven young black folks who will get killed here in Philadelphia this weekend--like every weekend . If one of them is "family" then yes, their death has more meaning to me, and I am interested in how/why it happened. I didn't create this situation, the straight and dl folks created this. When a black gay is killed in an incident where the victim's sexuality is known, straight black folks couldn't care less.

Derrick from Philly! Don't sit there and pretend that gays care about regular hetro blacks. Hell I would go as far as to say that if u got killed regular negros would b the ones who would show the most concern. More than your white gay brothers would. So plz. When Amadou Diallo was killed her in New York in 1999, there was a protest down that I went to and u know what? In gay liberal New York the only people who showed were regular working poor, lower middle class blacks. None of the white liberal groups showed! Not the gays, not the feminist, not enviromentalists, fucking none of them. We were out there alone, so spare me the bitching about no one caring about gays. If u want people to show concern 4u, u need to show cornern other people! Gays are like anyone else they only show concern 4 issues that they see as directly affecting them. So don't go around slamming people for doing something that gays do 2!

Why do you guys always have to fight over everything on here? Turn everything into a gay, or a race-issue? Something awful happened yesterday...33 young students got killed, it's most likely that most are straight, some are bi, some are gay, some are white, asian, black, native-american..the list goes on and on...Let's just commemorate the one's that are lost regardless of their sexual orientation or skin color..And I know this site focusses on the black, gay community, but this was already posted long before there was anything known about the identities of the students that got shot or the killer. Not every article on here should be bend in a direction where it's "more relevant" to us. If you have a heart you should be able to relate to it anyway...No need to bitch..peace.

I guess being one of the few hetros who regularly comments on Keith's website I suppose I should get use to being in the opinion minority! I have sensed a definite dismissive attitude toward anyone who dares who express an opinion that deviates from the party line. But I am up to the challenge, I hope! LOL!
