Serena Makes A Comeback

They said it couldn't be done, but Serena Williams proved them wrong. They said she had given up on tennis, but Serena Williams showed them she still had it. They said her heart wasn't in it, but Serena Williams showed that it was. In a stunning upset, Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova to win the Australian Open women’s final on Saturday. Her 6-1, 6-2 victory took just an hour.
The New York Times called it "one of the most remarkable comebacks in tennis history and it came against the young woman who will regain the No. 1 ranking on Monday." It was Serena's eighth Grand Slam singles title and her third Australian Open title. I must admit I was very impressed to see Serena win, but I am almost equally impressed by the size of her right bicep in the photo above, taken by Clive Brunskill for Getty Images. I'm not sure if that's an optical illusion or her actual arm, but those arms alone could intimidate many an opponent. Either way, congratulations to Serena.

Damn. Thats an arm. Is it that much disproportioned then the other one? I would hope not but she is definitely packing some meat on those bones. A buff military friend of mine dressed up as her for halloween and he pretty much looked just like her!LOL

I have always thought that she was a beautiful woman...
I congratulate her in her victory as there were many naysayers who were saying that she was out of shape and unlikely to win. She says that this was one of her most rewarding victories because of the cynicism aimed at her.

Mmmmm hmmmm... Here we go again with the familiar "she looks like a man" diss. I wonder why it's so difficult to congratulate her victory or,in lieu of that, to simply STFU. Clearly Her win last night doesn't sit well with SOME folks.
:: eye roll ::
Thank you, Serena, for proving - yet again - that with self-confidence and preparation, persons can rise above the obstacles of hate and racism.
"FUCK DA HATAHS!!" Congrats, Serena!

Go, Serena! I'm so happy for her. There's nothing better in life than making the people who say you can't do something eat their fucking words.

Woo hoo! As a huge tennis fan for many years, it was great to see her win last night. She has been dissed on tennis message boards for the past few years, and some of the most vile racist epithets thrown her way with little regard to her injuries and the loss of her beloved sister. This is why the MAULING she gave Maria was so sweet, shut them up and showed, when she is fit she is still the best woman tennis player out there!
Keep it real and keep it up baby girl! Stay fit, focused and hungry for more majors, 8 and counting!!

Optical illusion. Any true fan of Serena's would know that her arms are proportionate.

Serena's to do list yesterday at the Australian Open:
* Wake Up √
* Practice √
* Try as hard as possible not to laugh at Maria Sharapova's "serve" √
* Administer one of the most intense and methodical bitch-slapping beatdowns on a world's number one in a slam final by an unranked player....for revenge of '04 Wimbledon √
* Write open letter to Chris Evert saying "There! Happy now, bitch?

For Serena Williams, tennis has become exactly what a sport should be--a pleasure. She plays when she wants to, and when she needs a bit of a break from the day to day pressure of rankings and tournaments she stays away from the game. Unlike most players, however, when she returns, she returns at the top of her form and dominates the game until such time that she needs another break.
That is how you really rule the game. She doesn't have to run from tourney to tourney, year-in and year-out in order to win Grand Slams. She can pick and choose, but you betta hope she doesn't choose your tournament, 'cause when she does, she's gon' bring it!

...this pic was taken in the millisecond when serena is making contact with the ball and her muscles are flexed...she's not deformed or anything, her physique is solid and the girl is just "stacked"...you ought to hear address the questions about her fitness as she explains her black womens body to reporters, it's hilarious and she takes it in stride as she continues to beat more white girls than rick james... go serena! lol

She is a beautiful, young, fabulous and rich! She has brain and brawn. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching her these last few weeks. Finally, I'll be able to get to work on time on Monday. Even though Sharapova could not serve her way out of a paper bag, Serena still gave us a spectacular show. Can't wait to see her on the rest of the tour. She raises it to a whole 'nother level.

Being the tennis fan that I am, I am extremely happy to see her back. Let's hope this will inspire Venus to return to the circuit too. Nice thing about Serena is the fact that has all the curves of real woman - not like those other titless, anorexic and shapeless femails on the circut.

Serena is a monster! Love her cock-diesel azz!!! I agree with several comments... the camera shot was taken just as her muscle contracted and she hit the ball... the girl is like the song says... A BRICK HOUSE!

I love the prowess and style the Williams sisters have brought to the game.
I am concerned though, about the door knocker earrings and prominent jewelry they wear to the court.
Early in their careers, Venus got in trouble when some of her hair beads busted off and landed on the court.
If a player lost a diamond on the court, and had to interrupt everything to find it, or any other jewelry taking time from the ball kid's duty of clearing the court, I can understand if there were regulation on what can be worn on the court.
I'm saying that about all players. It's just that the Williams sisters that wear stuff like this in particular.
And maybe that's a petty criticism.
But, other than that...
those girls ROCK it!
Love them...LOVE THEM!

I love the Williams sisters. I'm happy she upsetted Sharapova. When I watched the awards ceremony after the match, Sharapova looked like she wanted to slap Serena upside her head with that silver platter. I swear those earings can almost be used for tennis rackets too. I'm jealous of that woman for having a bigger set of arms than me. :)
Those sisters are going to go down in history as having the most defined bodies for female tennis players. You can almost set a glass of water on their butts.

I just loved the INTENSITY Serena showed during that match. She wasn't going to be denied. Serena is a diva and she loves a grand stage where the odds are stacked against her. And no one gets Serena up like Sharapova does, so I knew Serena would be prepared for that match. When Serena is in peak form (and sadly for the other girls she wasn't here) there is NO one who can match her speed, athleticism, serving, and power. Not too many players can come back from only playing 6 matches the previous year and win a grand slam title. So you can only imagine what Serena is capable of when she's 100% focused and committed. The other difference in the match was Serena was battle tested coming in after defeating 4 higher seeded players in some tough matches while Sharapova was never tested and had an easier path to the finals.
