So What Did You Think?

Washington -- I think I picked the worst possible time to come to the nation's capital. Monday my hotel was overrun by anti-abortion protesters who had come to town by the busloads to commemorate the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Tuesday the city was deep in the throes of the State of the Union, which brings together the leaders from all three branches of government to one building.
Last night the president gave his penultimate State of the Union address. He talked about health care, immigration, energy policy and other domestic issues, but the real issue on the public's mind was Iraq. The president said we cannot afford to fail in Iraq, but he did not actually convince a lot of people that he had a plan to win. So now that the State of the Union is over, what did you think? Did you watch? Did you believe the president? What did you think about Nancy Pelosi? Just a few questions to tap into the pulse of the community here.

people i have talked to and things i have read online so far seems to have the President in a positive light as far as the SOTU. Hannity and Colmes ran a pole that got many voters who said the president didnt an excelent job. Personally the SOTU to me is nothing more than an exercise event..people get up and clap every 5 minutes. Really doesn't do anything for me.

I refused to watch the idiot in chief. Frankly, he has failed in every regard. I am simply waiting for congress to impeach his ass and to prosecute Cheney, Rove, and the other minions that have raped our country, taken away our liberties, and killed so many people simply to boost oil company profits. The bills are coming due in more ways that one. The shrub can blather all he wants - it only makes his depravity more apparent.

bush has never been a great orator. i am not a fan at all. but, this war business is bigger than public opinion polls. the public is missing facts, by the nature of the beast. keeping all that oil out of the wrong hands is key, they don't say it, but it's true. i also believe the terrorism breeding ground assertions need to recieve strenuous debate. if walking out leaves a million new potential plane crashers, we need to stay. it hurts me to say that. those young people in the prime of their lives are giving their lives for a war that started with a lie. a hornets nest has been disturbed now and we can't just go running for cover. the mess has got to be cleaned up.

I watched only to witness the reactions of the audience ... don't believe or like much what he says anyway. I enjoy the drama and acting of the diverse audience from Laura to Hillary from Barney Frank to Obama ... all fun theater to me!

For once Bush talked about limiting green house emissions, and preserving the environment! Unbelievable... He even committed to get Americans to use more alernatives to fossil fuels. This bit of his speech seems like a huge culture change. Unfortunately, he set targets that don't go far enough....

I personally didn't watch because I do need Bush to tell me his views on the state of the Union or what his vision is for the next year and change.
I never had confidence in him and his track record of the past several years only confirmed that. Actions speak louder than words... and his actions are the reason he will be remembered as one of the worse Presidents ever.

Great to see a female in the speaker's seat. This will certainly pave the way for a Gay Speaker of the house.
If Bush really wanted to bring home the message of cutting green house emissions, he would have sanctioned all major US airlines to cut their daily flights in half.
Under all this retheoric over global warming (Cut boy Al Gore where are U), the global business communities are sending all of us to a slow death due to their travel itineraries. No media has brought this industry out of the closet informing the public that emissions from aircraft are more dangerous than from land vehicles, because the aircraft release their carbon fumes higher up in the atmosphere, thus accelerating global warming.

I could only watch the highlights I admit that I cringe every time he opens his mouth. But I'm smart enough to realize that for every one person who, like me, he turns off with his use of the language, he puts 20 others at ease for this same reason).
That said, my only question is how are we going to pay of ANYTHING ELSE?
Outta whose ass is the money to magically appear??

I tried to avoid this debacle by going to the gym, but it was stillon when I got home :-(. I did see Bush honor the man who saved the teenager that fell onto the subway tracks a few weeks ago. He stood up and blew kisses to the audience like Evita Peron! Then he bearhugged the soldier next to him. Is this guy a nelly drama queen or what? Oh yeah, whatever Bush said, who cares?

Bush gives me an upset stomach. Watching him is like trying to digest spoiled food. I tried to listen to him but I failed. Not because of my attention span, which is great for the things and people that interests me. But it's because he's a con artist.
I wonder if he's getting a good night sleep knowing that he will go down in history as being the President who had the lowest approval rating ever. Well, if you do cunning things, you will eventually pay for it in the long run.

Only reason I watched the telecast last night was to see Nancy sitting in that big chair behind the President. Something about seeing that just made me feel as if we can make a change anything we want in this country.

The Democrats have humbled this man! LOL He seemed more calm. No he didn't mention the war all the way, but he got off his we need to stay in iraq and no ones going to stop me band wagon.
Hey he's human and I can't put too much energy in an able-bodied, heterosexual, rich, christian, white man who needs to do his own work around oppression and a whole lot of cutural competance issues. It's called a parallel process

I CAN'T EVEN STAND THE SIGHT OF PRESIDENT BUSH OR CONDO RICE...BUSH WOULD NEVER SEND HIS TWO DAUGHTERS TO FIGHT IN THE WAR ... HE'S WILLING TO SACRIFICE EVERYONE ELSE'S LIFE BUT NOT HIS DAUGHTERS ...HE, HIMSELF FAIL TO GO TO VIETNAM ... I CAN'T STAND PEOPLE IN POLITICS ...THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN POLITICS ARE THERE FOR THEIR OWN MONETARY AND POWER ADGENDA...MOST PEOPLE IN POLITICS ARE VERY CONTEMPTOUS OF THE PEOPLE THAT THAT REPRESENT...IT IS JUST VERY VERY SAD.

I dont understand how its a bad thing to have anti-abortion posters up, but we cant have troops go out and support another country. It doesnt make any sense to me. Im not being ignorant. But someone please explain how killing unborn babies differs from war?

France was right! We should listen to the "old europe" more often... american people wanted this war so now, we have to finish it. The most disgusting is that young men and women from poor families die in Iraq, not the children of the politician.

The Decider-In-Chief still foments fear among the people. During SOTU, he brought up 9/11 ten times, but mentioned diplomacy only twice. I understand the need for vigilance against terrorism, but when Bush degenerated into outright lying ("we stopped a terrorist plot to destroy the largest skyscraper on the West Coast"), I became truly disgusted. (According to numerous government agencies, including the FBI, the LA skyscraper plot was little more than "wishful thinking".) In the meantime, more of our servicepeople are coming home in pine boxes. Senator Webb, in his rebuttal to SOTU, had it right when he pointed out how wrong our war with Iraq is. Coming from a man whose family served, and still serves, in the military, this is a statement Bush & Co. can ill afford to continue ignoring.
Problem is, while we are protesting the current war, Bush is preparing to fight the next war...
