Is Justin Timberlake Forgiven?

Justin and Timbaland

I remember a few years ago when Justin Timberlake's name was mud in the black community. It was shortly after the Super Bowl fiasco of 2004 and the "tittygate" (also called "nipplegate") scandal caused by Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during the halftime show she performed with Timberlake. Janet got skewered by the media, the FCC and the right-wingers for indecent exposure, but Justin -- the white man who exposed the black woman's breast -- walked away without much of a whimper of protest.

As Janet held her ground, Justin quickly apologized, a move that looked like he was selling his partner down the river because many observers assumed the whole act had been scripted by both of them. Since that time, Janet has been virtually banned from MTV (according to Clay Cane), while Justin's career continues to rise. Justin even opened the show at last week's MTV Video Music Awards and put on a performance with Timbaland, a black recording artist. Now I'm not one to hold a grudge, but I'm still trying to figure out what's going on here. Has Justin Timberlake been forgiven?

I don't have the answer to that question. I think it's really more for Janet to decide than for me, but I have to admit I did feel guilty jamming to Justin's hot new song Sexyback while at the gym today. I admit it. I bought the song on ITunes last week. The song is hot, even if Justin and Timbaland's performance of it at the VMAs was weak.

So here's my question. Should I be ashamed of myself, or is it now okay to listen to Justin Timberlake again? I don't know the answer to that question either.

i find myself having the same difficult choice. i did stop listening to "justified" after the incident, but i do love "sexyback." i think i'll label it a guilty pleasure and keep on keeping on...much like eminem.

Craig

If you like the song you like the song, as for the question has he's been forgiven,I think he has. I know it's been reported Janet hasn't spoken to him since Nipple Gate, as much as I like Janet my problem with her is why is she working with Jermaine Dupri, that's something I'm working on forgiving her for.

Jayla

I don't think Justin has been "forgiven" because I don't think that many people were mad at Justin. His white male privilege prevented him from even having to deal with a lot of the stuff Janet faced.

Tyler

I think we need to examine why the symbolic attack on a black woman by a white man continues to demonize the black woman. Symbolically, it is no different than the slaveowners who raped the female slave and she is considered a "Jezebel".

First, it was HIS song. Janet Jackson played hook chick for him on HIS song and she gets the brunt of the blame? How is that fair? What does it say about our nation's view of a black woman?

Further, there is the larger issue of the fact that Justin took a large share of credit for the writing of the songs on Justified even though it later came out that the tracks were rejects from Michael Jackson's Invincible project. It's a problem in so much as he constantly said he wasn't ripping off MJ when he knew those songs were written with MJ in mind.

nova

I haven't forgiven, but I'm fine with however Janet herself chooses to handle the situation. However, a lot of the product Justin has been putting out is far superior than Janet's, and that's the hardest part for me. I've decided I will cop Justin's CD via a dub from a friend and buy 20YO twice.

James

Well I've never been a fan of the Justin, so he's not getting any of my money. As for nipplegate, he punked out like a little girl.

Hamadi

I don't think it is difficult choice at all, not any more difficult than not partonizing the korean store in New York after an unarmed young black girl was shot by the owner. I remember the debate then about whether blacks should patronize the store so the owner would not go out of business. duh??? What is so difficult about foregoing the dubious pleasure of listening to a song by someone who personifies white privaledge rather than making a personal statement about a blatant and racist double standard, give me a break!!!

jared

since he has no talent as far as i'm concerned, and for my musical tastes offer nothing, i say if you like him, support his career. he is just a elvis reincarnation and with that brings privilege and he will always be "in" with that industry. maybe if he would take his wannabe black guy image and thug it out since those white boys are funny to watch, maybe then i would change my tune!

John Prescod

Who cares? Black people just like to stir up nonsense. They should have both apologized and moved on.
There was NO "ground" to "hold" at all. It was dumb, ill-advised, and would have gone away a long time ago (and should have).

This is why people barely sniff when the black community cries racism anyumore, because it has become sort of a way of life for them to do so.
I was in no way aware that "blacks" held Mr.Timberlake in a dim view after this.
Maybe it's stuff like that that explains the state of black America today.
Is this what being black is all about?
I shudder...

KEITH!!! i am calling my Dominican sister in Washington Heights and there will be a quick Santeria spell put on you for supporting Justin! lol Naw, I think if you like the song and you feel his music then you shouldnt feel bad. I do believe it's up to Janet - i feel like Janet should completely address how she feels about Justin. Janet did "apologize" a little later than Justin but she still apologized and i dont understand why she is still banned -- they wont play her videos or anything. When Madonna was banned she went off and let everyone know how she felt about MTV and their hypocrisy - I will never forget when she said, "MTV is afraid of two girls kissing, but they dont care about showing videos where people are blown to bits." However, Janet seems too passive for a statement like that ... we will see what happens when her album comes out!

Avery

I don't think we should be looking to others for permission to listen to music that we enjoy. If Justin's song makes your feet tap, then don't fight the urge; tap your feet! We must march to the beat of a different drum. I am all for the solidarity of the black community on issues like the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, but when it comes to matters of personal choice, likes and dislikes, no one else will tell me whether its alright for me to listen to Justin, Christina, or Beyonce (B'Day in stores NOW), nor will I be told what color my hair must be, how baggy my jeans should be, or how masculine I need to act. So is Justin forgiven? That's up to you. I personally write Justin off for shying away from the criticism and taking the safe road, but you can hold your own opinions. Either way, if you want to bring sexy back, then do so!

Dee Jay

I won't support him at any level. He flashed his "I'm white AND male" card without delay when the "Nipplegate" hit the fan and left Janet to fend for herself.

I am offended at the ridiculous "high yella brah" morphing that he undertakes when his pimp game is in high gear. Frankly, uf anyone is poised to fill the King of R&B slot after Usher's reign, it's OMarion or maybe even Chris Brown.

Pardon me but as we say back in the my day "MUTHAFUCK A JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!!!"

langston

I will never support JT ever again. I did purchase his Justified CD, liked it, and I still think he's talented. However, some people may not know, or understand, but Janet had extended a lot of support to Justin. NSync opened for her during the last dates of the Velvet Rope tour, when they had yet to break big here in the states. That helped to legitamize them, to many people. Janet also was featured on his debut, and remember, no one knew whether or not that CD was gonna be wack, before the 1st single was actually released. I actually bought the CD because of the Janet connection. Yet, when Janet needed him the most, he scurried away like the white punk that he is. Disloyalty is a trait that I despise, so whether J "forgives" him or not, he'll never get $11.99 from me ever again.

ME

Well I cant lie but he does make good music (thanks to good producers). But until MTV gives Janet the credit and airplay that she deserves, I feel like he shouldn't be forgiven. He even admitted that she is being done wrong. Still he hasn't done anything about or attempted to.

Darrell Diggins

Forgive Justin? I say: forget Justin. (Yes, the white boy can groove and coo a respectable melody. I'll give him that.) Yet, as Tamadi and Tyler (see above) so eloquently put this matter in historical context, Janet was pilloried and Justin got off the hook, if he was ever placed on it. And because he's yet/never acknowledged any culpability that I'm aware of, I cannot, in good conscience--EVEN if I like his work--support his artistry. (Like Keith, I heard it at the gym, too; the damned song is becoming ubiquitous!; I can't seem to get away from it. But I'll be damned if I buy it. The same goes for certain well-known gospel songbirds and balladeers, among others.)

In the end, it's all about one's principles. Do you support those artists (or politicians or clergy or businesses or organizations, etc.) whose actions or inactions are harmful or unfair to our best interests? I say: No. This isn't about crying racism or celebrity justice. It's about SEEing the larger implications and responding accordingly.

mikey D

Not forgiven!!

Steve

It's ok to listen to Justin. Neither he nor Janet should have been persecuted for what happened. Justin benefits from the hypocrisy of our society - it's ok to do "bad" things, as long as you feel guilty about it. Poor Janet didn't feign guilty feelings. I respect her more for it.

Liquid Fonts

I'm sure that Justin Timberlake knew that he would be highly criticized both by blacks and whites for his style of music and that much of the criticism would be valid regarding the race dynamics within music industry but thank goodness he continues to put out such savory music! As far as the Titty Fiasco is concerned, Janet is a grown ass woman who doesn't need Justin's "protection."-though the gesture may have been appropriate.

PAUL

It's a tough situation--One one hand it was sad how they treated Janet (and how she passively withdrew) and on the other hand how Justin got away from the situation totally unscathe. I do think (and I am playing devil's advocate here) that it has everything to do with Justin being a man moreso than his race. Let's face it, when it comes to controversial situations in showbiz, men have it much easier than women (except of course MADONNA--who is a shrewd business-woman and one-woman empire). Success goes even more in favor of JUSTIN than JANET---HE makes fantastic music, SHE gets more and more mediocre with every album--she seems trapped in a box musically. I ADORE JANET but here predictable sounds just kills me each time I spend $17.00 on her CDs. ANY track on Justin's FUTURESEX CD could be a hit--JANET has to come strong to beat that---Of course, did I mention that BEYONCE has another hot CD?

Mark Norris

Man, this is why I love forums like this. I too am in the position you are Keith. But, I don't trip on it. I am a Janet fanatics..FANATIC! I do feel that she got the brunt of all of the blame and Justin didn't get as much as a scratch. And that is not that state of where black america is, like someone mentioned earlier. It is the state of america period. I say that because I have heard alot of black americans giving Jan a hard time and it's all her fault blah, blah, blah. I just look at them and shake my head. What is so frustrating for a lot of us is the american public in general is so blind to simple s&#t. Facts showed what George Bush was about & with a twist he re-focus the attention of america &look he is still in office. This talented WHITE young male singer is the one who pulled at the clothing. Let me repeat this, this WHITE male singer is the one who pulled at the clothing of Icon Janet......is the one who pulled at the clothing of Janet. Now, who is the one who should have gotten most of the blam

yeahisaidit

...hell, in the meantime people should just go ahead and check out robin thicke...his new cd drops in october...he's like next level justin, without the baggage, plus a beautiful black wife and a up to date ghetto pass...

Sexbox

Both of them look bad in my mind. Janet lied (there's no way that was an accident) and just avoided the situation. The sad thing about it is that Janet's Damito Jo album was really good, but it was largely ignored due to the scandal. Now, she feels the need to do a major comeback which has led to an album that is very uninspired and it's obvious she's desperately trying for a hit. The sound is very bland, generic RnB. Working with JD is the worst thing that she could've done.

Justin on the other hand has rebounded with a great cd! A bit of a Prince knockoff, but still very good and very him.

Hopefully Janet's current album flops so she can get back to her roots!

Jeff S.

Justin and his music is wack. I have never seen someone try so hard to please everybody. Why don't this dude get a backbone or some balls. He is trying to hard to sound "black". He also continues to spit out the most PC comments in his interviews. Originally it was reported that he had a problem when a recent American Idol winner and later he began back-peddling to not offend any potential record buyers. This dude is nothing but a wankster media whore. Send him back to the sticks please. Furthermore if Michael Jackson, Prince or James Brown had released this crap the media would have had a field day denoucing this trash. Maybe I'm just too old (48) or maybe we have really lowered our standards for music (Justin, Beyonce, fantansia) as Leela James and Xtina have related let's take it back to basics.

Jerry

Keith you do what you got to do. I'm never forgiving his punk ass. And I'm never buying his music or supporting him im any way. He left janet to fend for her self after all she had done for him. he's a PUNK ASS MUTHERFUCKER.

Ben

Nipplegate was just dumb. A foolish stunt on Janet and Justin's part. A clumsy response on Janet's part. A exaggerated reaction in the media.

There was no real public outcry. It was later revealed via an FCC report that the 'emails and letters' were generated by 3 people at either the AFA or Focus on the Family or one of those ridiculous fascist watchdog groups.

Justin wisely apologized and moved on. Janet hedged her bet - apologize and be contrite or try to maintain some sort of artsy edge a la the aforementioned Madonna/Justify My Love controversy - and lost. Janet is not Madonna. (And no one wants her to be!)

So while race, and moreso gender, were huge factors in the reaction to the occurence, they had little to do with the silly inception of it.

So is Justin forgiven? Does anyone even care? Janet's not been forgiven so much as forgotten - not due to NipGate but because Damita Jo was crap and her new stuff is thus far lackluster, dull and lame.

Janet, we miss you much. Come back to us.

dee jay

Question: Did any black entertainer publicly condemn (or,if warranted, come to the defense of) Paris Hilton for her alleged "dumb nigger" comment that was caught on tape?

I'm specifically referring to the likes of Snoop, Timbaland, Diddy, Li'l Kim or any of the other whores in the industry's hip hop stable?

This Justin thing reminds me of something my now 96-year old granny told me about dating: "people will do whatevah you let 'em do..."

craig

Would there be so much hate if it was Usher instead of Justin, race had nothing to with Nipplegate and true Justin could have owned up to his part better than he did. What's funny is that the same black people who are dissing Justin now are probably the same one's who were on his tip and made "Cry Me A River" a number one hit on R&B radio.

tdubbs

well i like sexyback too but being a janet fan i will not support justin's music, i just won't. nor will i support MTV. fortunatley at this point in her career, janet does not need MTV or justin, im just a loyal fan so this is where i stand, but hey keith , u can't help to like what u like so you are not wrong for that, now if i even think about buying justin's music i will melt away like the wicked witch of the west, nope just won't do it, lol

algie

its all good because mtv and justina gonna get theirs because god don't like ugly.you get back what you sow,why you think mtv got their worst ratings ever for that boring show.janet is so much bigger than mtv hell she helped make them what they once were keyword being once was because they don't even play videos no more and as for justina that sexyback song is wack and just wait for tha new single so excited by janet to hit with the video next wednesday on bet's access granted.its gonna be off the chain especially when she breaks it down and reminds people why there is and will always be one janet

Sexbox

I don't understand why everyone thinks MTV is blacklisting Janet. They played her videos from Damito Jo (especiall All Nite) more than BET! This was right as the controversy of the Superbowl, but they stuck by her.

Her new single, Call On Me, is garbage, has flopped on the charts and I think they're doing her a favor by not playing it. The new single is a little better so hopefully they play it and Janet can redeem herself.

She truly has no one to blame but herself and JD for the lack of support Call On Me got. It's a generic RnB track and a ripoff of Nelly and Kelly Rowland's Dilemma.

Janet has always been about originality, I want THAT Janet back!

I used to like Justin Timberlake and he really is talented, but he will never get another dime from me. He left Janet twisting in the wind after he stripped her on live TV. The FCC was stupid and over reacted too, but I can't stop paying taxes to protest their stupidity. I can stop giving money to the main perpetrator of the whole fiasco.

Sexbox

Wait, yall are saying this is 100% Justin's fault? Why don't yall hate Janet as well? She had the pretty nipple ring on and was clearly involed in planning the ridiculous stunt. It's not like Justin is a creep and just ripped her top off for no reason. It was a planned stunt between the two of them.

So I ask again, WHY is it that Justin is this evil person, but Janet is not? THis is such a silly situation that has been blown way out of proportion. Everything is not about race.

nova

Sexbox, the issue isn't the actual stunt. The issue is equal accountability and mutual support. They were both involved and they both should've took the same action when the shit went down afterwards. The shade is, these two DATED. He could've said or done something. Personally, I wish they'd both given the media the collective finger.

Zeus

What pissed me off about Nipplegate was the fact that Justin showed his TRUE colors. He left Janet out to roast and started blaming her for his part in Nipplegate during interviews.

Then he had the nerve to finally give a vague comment on the fiasco during his special on MTV. This man is about promotion and nothing but a sellout. And honestly most black producers/artists are money hungry individuals so they could care less about what he did. I know The Leverts didn't want to have anything to do with Justin because of Nipplegate, but I haven't heard anything from the rest.

Shannon

I'm glad there are some black folks who can see this fool for who he truly is; a poser, a user, and a punk.

And if I hear one more person refer to this dim-wit as "The New King of Pop," I will have to have my foot surgically removed from their ass. How the hell does one take that title with ONE solo album that wasn't even THAT great of a seller? Plus, how the hell are you the NKOP when Usher has sold more than you have? I mean, if anybody should inherit the title AFTER MJ retires, it's Usher.

Do folks who refer to him as the NKOP realize all that MJ had done before he got that title? Let's see: that's all of the J5 and Jacksons material, Off the Wall, Thriller (biggest selling album of ALL TIME), Bad, and Dangerous. Not to mention record breaking concert sales, endorsement deals, and innovative videos and dance moves. If JT were black, people wouldn't even go there. Disgusting.

chris

He claims he’s bringing “sexy back”, but I no longer find him appealing. I think this situation was a good test of his character as a man and in my book he failed miserably. I know his “people” probably advised him to distance himself from Janet and the situation for the sake of his career. However, at the end of the day, are you an image or man who happens to be an artist. As a man, where was his courage to handle the fallout from a planned performance. I didn’t expect him to boycott MTV or refuse major magazine covers, but I lost respect for him when he completely distanced himself. We all make mistakes, it’s how you handle yourself afterwards that says the most about your integrity and character.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Craig

The more people are hating on Justin the more I'm starting to like him, people need to get over Nipplegate and move on. I love Janet as much as the next guy but the fact remains her recent material isn't that good. There were maybe two or three good cuts on Damita Jo and the new single Call On Me on 20 Y.O. isn't that great, not bad just ok.

Bobby

Why does the media insist on giving Justin Timberlake the title of "king" when Usher out sings, out dances, out souls and out sells Justin at every single turn?

I can't speak for everyone, but as far as I'm concerned, I cannot, in good conscience, support someone whom I believe willfully upholds the racist and antiquated American traditions that come into play whenever something goes down between a white person and a black person. Namely, white person and black person get into trouble. White person says, "The Negro made me do it." A majority white populace must believe said white person (in order to maintain white privilege as a viable commodity) and blame becomes the burden of the black person. Check the plethora of texts on the subject out there, from both black and white authors.

Had Justin said these things before he had an album to pimp to urban audiences, had he not remained silent for so long, had he not tried to blame immaturity and inexperience on something that was racially-motivated C.Y.O.A.

Derrek

When was it ever ok for anyone to listen to that whiny woman? He can't sing, so yes, you should feel guilty.

George

Justin Timberlake is an immensely talented individual and he should be rewarded accordingly.
Janet's music isn't being played because it has been sub par lately. She is an icon but her time has come and gone. Justin is being promoted because he continues to provide hot/quality music. People holla about his one album. Lest we forget the smash success NSYNC was? He had three other albums before this one.
Justin is an up and coming superstar who I feel isn't trying to be black. His latest single sounds more like it's techno influenced than anything. He isn't imitating MJ anymore. He has a more George Michael feel now.
People compare him to Usher but Usher didn't write ANY of his music on his last album. Justin writes. Justified was an album of the year nominee AND NSYNC outsold anything Usher has ever touched. Let's leave the race card at the door.
Justin is the future.
Janet is the past.
End of story.

Cadence

I take exception to the idea that Justin Timberlake attacked Janet Jackson. Sexual assault is a very serious and real issue, and it is disgusting and insulting to women to call that staged event sexual assault. The whole thing, whether Justin knew about it or not, was just a sad attempt by Janet and her people to get publicity for her cd, and thankfully the dumb stunt didn't work and the cd tanked.

Both Justin and Janet should have known how stupid the stunt was, but that doesn't change the fact that Janet wasn't a victim. And the truth is that both will be forgiven if they put out good music. Janet hasn't been banned by MTV, her video just doesn't fit into the music that they are playing, while Justin's new song, with it's hip hop feel fits right in.

MissRossToYou

Janet deserves the spanking from the media; if that is indeed what she is getting. She absolutely contributed to the objectification of women, Black women in particular with that tasteless stunt of hers (and Justin's) at the Superbowl performance. We have had enough titties and behinds, thighs and back views of coochies of black women to last several lifetimes. She lowered herself to the likes of Lil' Kim and that very sad and exploited group. I was deeply disappointed in her behavior which seemed to be staged for shock value. She underplayed what the potential fallout would be for her and played herself in the process. Who cares about Justin Timberfake... Oh, I'm sorry I mean Timberlakey. He did what a lot of young men do after they hit it (or touch it in this case); QUIT IT.

LETS STICK 2GETHA

Yes - BE ASHAMED KEITH! I LIKED Justin. But after the whole fiasco, I will NEVER support him. He has timbaland (who I used to respect) and a whole blk band - but JUSTINE - I will never give you a pass....a nd people, DONT BUY HIS CRAP- we need to stick 2getha!

Tyler

Some of y'all need to wake up. Hey, Keith. Here is your answer, man:

"...it is only style and it is not anchored in any way with any critical knowledge of what it means to be Black. Or, by extension, they are so uncreative as to be easily adaptable. For example, we can now say well, here's this white boy who plays the blues, and it's the same blues. You strip the blues of its complex psychohistory, and listeners forget that it's not just this thing that's about can you play an instrument and can you sing a certain style, but that it brings with it an ethos of culture and experience. You strip it of the ethos that gives it its particularity, and say, well, you see, it was not that unique or great. Because if it were, it would not be so easily translatable or appropriated."
--bell hooks, homegrown (with amalia mesa-baines), 2006 (italics added)

brigmyers

I agree with the individual who remarked "why is this about race?". What really bothers me is that black people really are trying so darn hard to shift the focus on Justin (who I could care less for) when it was Janet who let her breast be exposed. Even it if it were staged by both, I don't believe that the culpability or punishment should be the same. Do you want to know why? If you and your friend stage a robbery, and in the process your friend kills an innocent bystander, do you think that both you and your friend deserve or will get the same charge of manslaughter. One is a murderer and the other is an accomplice. Janet is the murderer in this scenario. Do you think a 23 year old white boy could have even have suggested this stunt and persuaded a 40-year old Black woman to expose her breast on national tv. No, as much as I love Janet and I do and have been a fan, the burden of responsibility for this mess rests squarely on her shoulder. Don't support either one!

Relax...it's just sex.

Michael A Simon

I t boils down to race a White male over a Black female C'mon.. The rason Justin is successful is because of Timbaland making the Beats. That is why I like the song the beats.. You could put anyone in their singing the words.. The beat is what pushes it. I don't forgive Justin because he didn't Man up.. And the comments he made about Kayne West, I don't think he will be working with him anytime soon. And by the way he is a vocalist not a singer.. Marvin Gaye is and will always be a singer.

theeunuch

Dang Timbaland has gotten big!!!!

Paul Porter

Give me a break please. Justin Timberlake has always been dead in the black community. If it was not for one individual playing a former Timberlake title black America still would not know who Justin was.

Check some Urban playlist around the country and you will see Justin's "Sexy" is no where to be found.

Jeff Funk

I lost a lot of respect for Justin Timberlake when I read his comments pertaining to American Idol winner Taylor Hicks. Here's what Timberland said, in addition to saying Hicks can't "carry a tune in a bucket":

"If he has any skeletons whatsoever; if, God forbid, he's gay, and all these people in Mississippi who voted for him are like, 'Oh, my God, I voted for a queer!' It's just too much pressure."

Not cool.

Justsoukno

Everything is not about race, however he should have been blackballed just like Janet. They performed together, he was apart of the act. Point blank.

Jeannette Kenley

I'm not sure if I fell guilty. was it planned or not. I was ther in personand she looked pretty freaked. The nipple had a shield on it.... who knows. It's in the past. I love his music... I'm 42 and am considered the coolest mom by all the 9 year olds. What I find interesting is that on the new album ( I was born in 64 so it's an album (LOL) he sings a song " what comes around... Listen to his still hurting heart about Britney then his sig laugh at the end,,, What is up.. it's been 4 years.... He still care for her.... what do you think guys ? Very sad to me.... They all have the same shit we do it's just in the new.. GoD Bless

loi wade

NO! HELL NO! I do not forgive Justin. But then again, why should I be upset with him? After all much sought after black artist continue to work with him. So why shouldn't he think everything is o.k.? He isn't the first nor will he be the last white man to 'rape' a black woman and be forgiven for it. Not only by HIS people who expect black women to be treated like whores, but by 'house negroes' as well. Oh I am so PISSED! Don't we know the best way to show someone we mean business is through the pocket? KEITH!?

Tasha

i luved jt until the super bowl incident because he kinda ruined the halftime show casue nowadays it suks but i kind of forgive him now because he is bringing sexy back. lol. But honestly i tihnk we shud all move on because it was so long ago.

Sonya

I haven't forgiven Justin and I haven't bought his music. I just got it for free online. I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy his new record but he won't get my money. I can't give him the satifation. So for the first time I'm happy to take $ from his and his record company by getting the album from file sharing sites. He's a talented artist but it takes more than that to earn and maintain a level of respect with the public. Justin hasn't done that nor has he made enough efforts to make ammends.

JLee

DAMITA JO flopped because it was simply no good. The songs sounded unfinished, the interludes were basically "Penthouse Pet" babblings, and the "sexy" tone was way too nasty. "Sexyback" sounds like someone just turned on the loop software and told Justin to "act sexy". Super Bowl or no Super Bowl, it all comes down to the music.

K.E.M

I however used to be a huge fan of JT, however that has changed since the incident at the superbowl! I feel like he left Janet hanging!! Futhermore this is just my opinion, but if you like JT's music then support him, and if not by Janet's album like me!!!

LB

It's all about RACE and I will tell you why. Had 50 cent PULLED Jessica Simpsons top OR Nelly pulled Brittany Spears top OR Snoop pulled Shakira's top. You put ANY BLACK MALE and a WHITE FEMALE in the place of Janet and Justin and the outcome would have been COMPLETLY different! A Black male doing what Justin did to Janet would have been RAPE in America. If the white female said it was an accident it would have been an accident PERIOD. No questions asked! However, Janet being black (and a JACKSON) its ironic how America chose to attack HER. JUSTIN TORE HER TOP more than they had practiced and then went into hiding and the media and America forgot he was even on stage. You dont read articles about Justin in 2006 and hear about the "Wardrobe Malfunction" (Which he declared that phrase NOT Janet) However, Janet Jackson cannot do anything in America without that following her. She is a WOMAN and she is BLACK. Welcome to America folks...

Tina

I miss the old Control and Rhythm Nation Janet. Heck I even miss her pre-control albums Janet Jackson and Dream street!Sure wish it was the early 80's again.

Wow. This is incredible and sad at the same time. Its been more than three years and we are still thinking about this?!? Personally, I have been a JT fan for years now. Do I think he handled the situation and Janet wrong? Yeah, everyone knows that. Should he have gotten more blame. Of Course! He punked out. To me, the whole thing was blown out of control. But people (white and black) let's be honest here. The MUSIC has nothing to do with what happened at the Superbowl. If the music is hot, it's HOT. I have to admit, I like Janet, but the music she's giving out is not cutting it. If you are going to hate Justin for the rest of your natural life,go ahead. He will still be producing music that you will be bobbing your heads to and gaining big money regardless. Janet will still be out there doing her thing and will eventually put out good music like she use to. In whatever the case, get over three year old incidents. Buy music you want to buy. And support whoever you want to. In the End, IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER.

Hell to the nah he isn't forgiven. At least not by this black woman. Justin Timberlake A.K.A "Judas Timberfake" acted like a straight B***h. For his sake I hope his celebrity never causes him to have to spend time in jail. I can see him grabbing his ankles w/ no problem. He proved to be just another white boy exploiting black culture. He's such a wanna be, at the first sign of trouble he ran like a girl and got white real quick. Every black artist and producer that works with him is a trader to their race. They are only allowing him to capitalize off blacks while he enjoys his white privilege.

A male with no integrity is not a man. F***k him!
