Jensen Atwood Reveals All

Noah and WadeIt's been almost a year in the making, but it's finally here. The second season of Noah's Arc, America's first black gay television series, begins tonight on LOGO. And with the launch of the new season, it's a good time to get to know some of the actors on the show. So today we begin a series of interviews with the Noah's Arc cast. The first interview is with Jensen Atwood, the actor who plays Wade, Noah's primary love interest.

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Jensen Atwood studied acting at Cal State Long Beach and Playhouse West in LA. You may have seen him in music videos for Destiny's Child, Toni Braxton or Ashanti. Or you may have seen him in Oprah Winfrey's "Their Eyes Were Watching God." But you haven't seen Jensen Atwood until you've seen him in bed with another hot man on LOGO. He's sexy, straight and single, and I spoke to him this week about the new season of Noah's Arc.

Keith Boykin: Thanks for doing the interview. So tell me, are you excited about the launch of the new season?

Jensen Atwood: Very excited. More people are starting to take notice to the show. I’m curious as the new audience that seems to have popped up and how they’re going to get a feel about it.

BOYKIN: How do you feel?

ATWOOD: I feel good. It feels good to be a working actor. And it feels good to have finished what felt like a great season.

BOYKIN: What were the highlights of the season for you?

ATWOOD: Keith Hamilton Cobb is going to be on the show playing a character by the name of Quincy. He’s a pretty exciting addition to the show. There will be lesbians this go around…And you’ll learn a little more about who Wade is and how he feels about Noah.

BOYKIN: Was there anybody in particular you were excited to work with?

ATWOOD: It felt good just to get back to work. I think we have a good core group of actors and it was good to work with them again.

BOYKIN: I've seen you on TV, in commercials, on music videos. What do you enjoy doing the most?

ATWOOD: Acting in general is my passion. I also dance, and I also sing as well.

BOYKIN: Are we ever gonna see you dance or sing on the show?

ATWOOD: Not on the show. I just had a couple of auditions, so depending on how they pan out. You may seem me in another production...

BOYKIN: What's it like playing a gay male role as a straight actor?

ATWOOD: Playing the role I play is awesome. I don’t think there’s a show out there that gives you the dynamic that Noah’s Arc does, whether it’s interaction with black men that doesn’t have to do with guns and drugs. …It puts me as an actor in situations that don’t come around often…and it allows me to go through the whole gamut of emotions instead of just being a thief or a gang banger….

BOYKIN: Has your life changed since you started doing Noah's Arc?

ATWOOD: No things haven’t really changed. My life is really pretty much the same as its been. Starving artist trying to audition as much as I can.

BOYKIN: So you don't think of yourself as a celebrity?

ATWOOD: No I can’t say that I do. What I do is my passion and the support that I’ve gotten from the community has been a surprise to me and something that I’m glad to be a part of, to have some support or someone taking notice.

BOYKIN: Do people recognize you and stop you on the street?

ATWOOD: Rarely.

BOYKIN: I don't believe you.

ATWOOD: You don’t have to.

[LAUGHTER]

ATWOOD: Where I live is where I grew up, so people aren’t stopping me in my own neighborhood. They’ve known me my whole life....

BOYKIN: In the black gay community, you've received quite a bit of adulation and appreciation. How does that feel?

ATWOOD: It’s awesome and humbling at the same time as well. People have poured out their hearts to me and given new meaning to initially what this show was for me. I didn’t realize what the show was to so many people. I’ve had men tell me that the show has validated their lives, and that’s humbling.

BOYKIN: So was it just a job at first?

ATWOOD: It was like an audition that I go on all the time. This time I happened to know the director, Patrik, from a previous project.

BOYKIN: What was the previous project you did with Patrik?

ATWOOD: I was an extra in Punks.

BOYKIN: Which scene?

ATWOOD: I’m not even sure, you might be able to see the back of my head at one point in time.

BOYKIN: How long would you like to continue doing Noah's Arc?

ATWOOD: Hopefully for a long time. Hopefully the public likes what they see and they ask for me and LOGO gives them more.

BOYKIN: Where do you see yourself five years from now?

ATWOOD: I don’t like to put any time frames on anything, but as far as my career goes I would like to go into action film and be considered one of the biggest action stars in my time.

BOYKIN: Are you concerned you might be typecast in Hollywood after playing a "gay role"?

ATWOOD: It’s a thought in every actor’s mind when they play a character that they’ll be able to work beyond that. I know to some people that have embraced this character that they might see me as Wade, and I hope to be able to bring some dignity to another character down the line.

BOYKIN: How do you like working with Patrik?

ATWOOD: Awesome. He’s a great guy. I consider him one of my good friends….It’s more than everybody could ever ask for, to get to work with their friends.

BOYKIN: What's it like being a sex symbol?

ATWOOD: I don’t know.

[LAUGHTER]

BOYKIN: You're modest. I like that. Let me try again. What's it like being perceived as a sex symbol?

ATWOOD: I think it’s awesome. It’s definitely an ego boost.

BOYKIN: But you don't think of yourself that way?

ATWOOD: No, titles can bother you. People will say almost anything. What do I believe. Do I believe the positive things. Do I believe the negative things.

BOYKIN: There have been some complaints about the acting on the show. How do you respond to those complaints?

ATWOOD: Everybody is entitled to their own opinions. I love my profession. It’s something that I take very seriously. Everybody's got an opinion.

BOYKIN: Are you single?

ATWOOD: I am.

BOYKIN: I noticed you have a myspace page. Is it really yours?

ATWOOD: I don’t even own a computer. I have my sidekick. It gets really annoying because I can’t do all the things I want to do [in updating his myspace page].

[Jensen explains that there are several myspace fan pages out there that he did not create]

ATWOOD:When I have gotten a chance to go online, your website has been a huge part in informing people and letting them know that Noah’s Arc even exists, and I just want to thank you for that. I almost can’t Google Noah’s Arc without seeing your name.

BOYKIN: Ah, that’s so nice. Thank you very much. I love the show and good luck with the next season.

Now please help me to understand; how can a straight man kiss another man as well as caressing & cuddling, and not be gay? I'm really confused and would like a "mature" logical answer. I want to keep an open mind but it's hard to believe that a straight man would kiss, really kiss another man. Please help me with understanding this behavior. Thanks!!

K B

It's called "acting."

Do you not believe that a gay man can portray a straight character? It's been going on since the invention of theatre 2,000+ years ago.

pc

I'm sure a steady paycheck makes it much easier for a str8 mant to kiss another man!

Mark Norris

Like KB said, "it is called acting". Rockmond Dunbar told Maurice Jamal when asked how does he feel playing a gay character (Dirty Laundry), "I am an actor, therefore I a doing what I love to do......act." "This is a good opportunity to stretch my skills as well as to tell a story that more people need to hear." This was told to the crowd at Outfest here in Hollywood after a screening of Dirty Laundry.

More and more straight actors are coming forth and being challenged this way,(The Rock in Be Cool, Heath and Jake in Brokeback) and displaying a lot of courage in this homophobic world. Hope this helps. As for me I am disappointed, cause Lord knows some of these actors including Jensen have been a part of some lucious wet dreams...........

Remember love,
Mark

nat[TypeKey Profile Page]

it seems that everybody on that show is now "str8". it makes me think, arent there any african american same gender actors out in hollywood that they could hire ? maybe they are employing what white america uses to not hire people of color, "there arent any qualified "..... just a thought.

Dexstarg

KB -- the Etruscans had amphitheaters -- so we are thinking 1200 BCE... THat would be 3200 years of theater...

PhillyPhile

Forget about theater, many gay men have playing straight roles in the lives, getting married, having kids, the whole nine. If a gay man can play straight 24-7, a straight man can play gay from 9-5 for paycheck.

Jeff

Also, when you're secure with who you are, that's all that counts. It frees you. I have straight black male friends who are like Jenson. They're cool with theirs and they're not homophobic. They can be in any crowd of people and be comfortable because they know who they are.

chris-leo

patrick, i see where you're going, but...

kissing and carressing shouldn't be tough for any actor. HOWEVER when i saw the original pilot on the dvd, and they were completely nude and grinding on top of each other, i admit i was a little jarred - acting or no-acting. that scene would've been difficult for most GAY actors to perform.

but a few things make love scenes - ANY love scenes easier; limiting the number of takes, multiple cameras for quicker coverage, WINE, BEER, WEED. i'm not kidding. there's sometimes a "courtesy pillow" between the two performers, so their stuff ain't touchin'. ALSO, love scenes are often blocked to the hilt and are anything but HOT, unless you count the discomfort of the lighting. AND keeping a sense of humor helps.

closing a set helps too. i worked on The Watermelon Woman, and when it came time for the lesbian "sex" scene, EVERYONE, especially the teamsters had to leave, and it was just me (replacing the sound guy), michelle (camera) and the two ladies in the bed.

Fratman1906

I am with KB and Philly Phile. Gay men have been playing str8 roles for so long that it is almost expected (and really wished for by many). In that way, out of sight out of mind. I am very glad that some str8 men can play gay roles. It further helps to break down some stereotypes and miseducation about "typical" persons of same sex desires. I applaud the men and women who can convincingly move between roles. That is consummate acting whether on screen or in the streets. Shem hotep.

Fans of Noah's Arc might wanna check out the black gay novels by one of the show's writers, John R. Gordon. "Black Butterflies" is about two black guys, Wesley and Floyd, who are best friends. It's only when Floyd dies - in a boxing match - that Wesley realises how much he loved him. Enter Paul, a student adopted by a white family, who meets Wesley at a crucial point in both their lives. "Skin Deep" is a gripping look at sexuality and race. The novel focuses on two parallel relationships - black couple Chris and Clinton; and Ray and Louis, a black/white couple. It's erotic, romantic, but above all highly intelligent (in other words, everything that James Earl Hardy's simplistic and patronising airport novels aren't). "Warriors & Outlaws" has a foot firmly in the world of the gangsta, with Jazz, leader of the Panther Posse, forging an unlikely relationship with black drag queen Carly. All the novels are sexy, urban and smart. Check them out.

With season II star guest lineup, Noah’s Arc is receiving wide attention and a wider audience.

Here, in bible-belt (smallville) Texas, a local black owned newspaper introduced Noah’s Arch as “1st Black Gay T.V.” favorably in a quarter page layout with photo. Lawd – I couldn’t believe it. The times – they are a changing. Hallelujah!

There's many battles ahead to conquer; however with constant agitation, in-'yo-face air assaults, and a crazy azz negro on ground patrol, attitudes are changing in smallville. I believe Noah's Arch wider audience will make my job a bit easier. Although a good slinging match with a pastor just lifts my spirits.

Jay

I'm curious. If all the gay roles are going to the "straight" actors. Then what roles are the "gay" actors playing? Why is it that "gay" characters are coming out as "straight," but gay actors who play straight characters are staying in the closet???

Craig

Gay or straight if your an actor and you want to work and you don't have a problem with the role more power to you. I don't care if the actor is straight or gay if they're good they're good. I hope the acting is better this season than last season and in time that will happen, having seen both Noah's Arc and The Closet the acting on N.A. is oscar caliber talk about bad acting the guys on The Closet counldn't act their way out wet tissue. As for straight actors playing gay I think it comes down to if the viewer feels any realism from the character the actor is playing, as much as I would love to be the real life boyfriend to Matthew St. Patrick I realize that he was just an actor playing a role and was believable doing so, gay or straight he did a hell of a job playing Keith on Six Feet Under and it didn't hurt that he's sexy as hell either. Big ups to Jensen and the rest of the cast, I'll be watching.

Concerned Fan

The only cast member on the show that's out and admits that he's gay is Wilson Cruz. Give me a brake? So What's next, the show is not a gay series? That's right Ricky, Noah, and even Alex are straight! Is this PR or are people just that assamed of being who they are? This makes it difficult to respect the series and claim it as our own.

pc

at the end of the day, i guess the most important thing is that our stories are being told with integrity and they are doing that.

KeithR

As to whether or not Jenson, or any other Noah's Ark actors are gay lets remember this. Sean Hays who played a very obvious homosexual role in Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss before rising to stardom doing the same thing on Will and Grace has to this day never admitted to being gay. Now is there anyone out there who believe's he's straight? So if a successful White actor playing a gay role on TV has had a difficult time admitting he is a homosexual its probably even more difficult for a Black actor playing a gay role on TV to admit it. And when your as masculine and attractive as Jenson it must be even more tempting to say you are straight. I for one don't think that any actor can play a role convincingly without drawing on some part of himself that identifies with that role. And the way the guys on Noah's Ark kiss, make love, make out with each other its hard to believe they are drawing entirely on their imaginations or on the behavior of others. But in the end we may never know about certain people.

Doug Cooper-Spencer

Ka-os,

Man, 'Black Butterflies' is one of my favorite novels. It's so cool to know someone else who has read it. Very psychological. By some of the words and spelling in your post, I can tell ur from England. So far I haven't met anyone here in the states who have read that novel.
Great reading, isn't it?

(Hope you get a chance to read my novel)

Honestly, to me, it matters lillte what the sexual orientation of this actor is. For once we, as black gays and lesbians, are being positively represented on TV. I doubt that the audience really needs to speculate on who is and who isn't. If I were to guess I'd say he is whatever he says he is. Straight or not, masculine or not, black or not, he's doing a tremendous job in representing us. A path very few have ventured in so far.
Good job, Jensen.

DDC

James Earl Hardy has to be the biggest disappointment in Black Lit. history. B-Boy Blues really impressed me- yes it was overly-political, over-sexed, far-fetched, and patronizing but I think it was also very entertaining (tightly-plotted, effectively humorous, and filled with tense conflict) and had lots of thematic depth. It also captured its time setting (the early 90's New Jack era) well, a hard feat for any writer. I just knew that this would be the start of something quite special. WRONG! With 2nd Time Around there was a sharp decline in Hardy’s writing & every sequel got worse, filled with boring story lines, useless conflict, worthless filler & banal dialogue. And it’s embarrassing how deeply in love he obviously is with his characters and how he speaks through them. He can't even think up new people to put into a new story. The only thing entertaining about reading Hardy now is to sadistically witness his continuous failures. I will definitely look into John R. Gordon's work, thanks.

eric

I totally agree with Patrick. How can any straight man be comfortable with kissing and caressing another man?

This society is so blind-- that is why james frye was able to tell his lies and get a way with it--even for a little while, but like james frye, in the end, the truth will prevail.

jared

ka-os, those books sound really good, but, where on earth can someone find them? anyone have an idea? thanks.

Mark Norris

"Concerned", who said the other actors were straight? I have never heard or read that Darryl (Noah), Rodney(Alex) or Doug (Chance) were straight. Matter of fact if you go to www.pinkmafiaradio.com there is an interview with Doug Spearman and he talks about his boyfriend and being an out black, gay actor.

We have to look at the big picture. I believe that most actors will admit to being gay because it limits their ability to obtain work. As much as I hate it, America is still homophobic in general. Yes, it's getting better thanks to folks like Patrik and Keith, but the overall majority will still stereotype you. And if your out and gay, guess what types of roles you will be offered. Higher ups will only see you in one way. Which is a shame, such a damn shame. So, not exposing you sexuality is going to be common practice. Why do you think so many actors, and singers "claim" they don't have time for a relationship or that they want to keep it private. This is just my opinion. I love to be enlighten and taught

Cadence

Doug Spearman is out and proud, he says so in the issue of the Advocate, where he appears on the cover. As to straight people playing gay characters, of course it happens. To say a straight man couldn't do this is incredibly homophobic. We really have to let go of the self-hatred or else we will not make any strides in society.

Jeff Hobbs

Mark Norris you just nasty with that comment about Jensen and having wet dreams!LOL LOL You need a spanking! ;)
I think Jensen adds so much to the show. Regardless of how 'butch' everyone thinks he or any of the other characters are supposed to be, I think Jensen is perfect for his role. Casting genius! I'm going to buy him a laptop. We need him online so we can fawn over him live on the real. (I'm not really buying him a laptop just as a disclaimer because if I could afford one I'd be at Starbucks right now surfing and cruising! OKAAAAAAAY!???)
I pinch myself a lot thinking that I had even a small part in this shows success. I love hearing the great stories about how the show has touched so many lives. I've personally told people about it and they just played me off like "What would this white boy know about a black show?"lol Then you see the same people come back a week later screaming about how amazing it is to see themselves in a tv show. Thanks Patrik for enriching everyones lives. Mine as well! Luv U

Steve

I'm with Patrick. I think it's still VERY convenient for a "gay" actor to claim he's "straight" in order to not fuck up the career. Not saying Atwood is gay, but simply saying "I'm straight" or even walking around with a woman on arm, ain't gonna cut it.
Frankly, I kind of don't care. He's attractive, he's a fantasy figure, and I'll never meet him. It can stay that way and I'll be happy. No matter how straight he may or may not be, though, he'll always be gay in my fantasy.

Steven

Hello Keith,

I am really surprised that Patrik-Ian Polk and the LOGO PR team changed their minds about revealing the sexual orientation of the actors. I am also surprised that you did not address the fact that you are the first to OUT Jenson on a national level. Was this the idea of LOGO, Jenson, Patrik or you?

Much Love,
Steven

360Bruh[TypeKey Profile Page]

Well, whether you all realize it, or not, you've just
demonstrated why actors who may be gay, choose not to
reveal it. Here is a groundbreaking show, that shows
"us" in a positive light, in situations many of us
have either experienced or can otherwise relate to,
yet the main focus of the dialogue so far, is the sexuality of the actors who are portraying the roles.
No performer would want that to be the focus of why
you would or would not want to see any of his work,
and it detracts from the project as a whole. I too
was somewhat shocked at the realism and eroticism
of some of the sex/love scenes, albeit, pleasantly
shocked. Turned me the "F" on, and the first thing
I thought was, if these guys ARE hetero, I give them
m-a-n-y props...because if Atwood had his sexy, naked,
body, grinding on top of MY naked body....well, moist
towelettes would have been needed!!!

C. Baptiste-Williams

I find it disheartening that people feel it is important to know whether or not an actor is gay or not. Enjoy their art... who they are sleeping with is of no relevance to the show.

It is amazing that as gay men we try to fight the stereotypes and boxes people put us in... just for us to turn around and try to put straight men like Jensen in those same boxes. Who are we to say what someone else can be comfortable doing?

Derrick form Philly

How can a straight guy kiss and grind on a gay guy or another guy?
Y'all ever heard of "trade"? Slightly different than a "DL" "Trade" had no interest in the other guy's dingdong. They used to be fun before the crack epidemic took over. And they came across pretty much like the character of Wade on Noah's Arc--a lot of them did kiss. But I'm talking about a time when most of y'all were in diapers, I guess. I know, most of y'all are saying, "thank God, those years are gone." It was fun, dammit!

Don't leave me way, I can't survive....

allegro

I'm really confused here. One minute JENSEN ATWOOD is STRAIGHT....another minute.....he's gay. I honestly think he's straight myself. However....in either the latest issue or the issue prior of CLIK....they have JENSEN ATWOOD listed as one of the HOTTEST GAY MEDIA PERSONALITIES. but then again.....when they listed KEITH....they misspelled his name...so mistakes can be made.....lol.

All I know is this....JENSEN....for all the so called acting training you've had...let me just say this....THANK GOD you got a PRETTY FACE AND BODY. Sorrt but you are one of the most STOIC actors on the show. Absolutely no range. Case in point in last nights episode....anyone else notice how he ALWAYS says NAOH's name when he sees him the same way. check out when he seems him in the bar and when he sees him again when Noah is walking home. his expression of surprise is EXACTLY the same everytime. A simple variation in tone would help that. A good director would catch something like that.

kmaur25

Because a man is intimate or has sex with a man does not necceassarily make them homosexual. There are plenty of closeted people who have sex with women, but that does not neccesarrily make them heterosexual. I think it is very much possible for Atwood to be heterosexual. Sexuality is very fluid and complex! His role anyway, is someone who identified as straight in the beginning, and eventually got involved and fell love with Noah. But I do think it is interesting that some of the cast do not want to reveal their sexual orientation! Most heterosexuals I have encountered do not have any issues addressing their sexual orientation.

ka-os

Doug,

I'll definitely check out your novel, This Place Of Men - it sounds great. Congratulations on the universally good reviews on amazon! Black Butterflies is amazing and inspiring, it's awesome to hear from another fan... ka-os@hotmail.co.uk

Eric

People feel it is important to know if the actors are gay or not because they probably are wondering why Noah's Arc would turn around and do the same thing every other so called gay show does and hire Str8 actors, with all the unemployed handsome black gay actors that can professionally act why would they (Noah's Arc, etc.) choose not to hire those actors instead. I wonder if all those black gay actors and black gay musicians can not get support to be on a gay show, who will hire them and/or give them support?

ka-os

Jared,

amazon.com is a good place to start for books, or Abebooks.com

javier

So which Myspace Page is actually Jensen's?

Cadence

Eric, they hired straight actors because they were looking for good actors to fit the roles. The sexual orientation of the actor isn't as important as if the actor can actually act, and make his character believable. It seems that Jensen is doing his job, if people think that he is gay but he's actually straight. I'm glad to see straight actors who don't feel the need to let it be known in every scene that they are really straight in real life. It's good to see someone who actually cares about his work, and is not so caught up in what others might think of him because he is ACTING on a gay show.

eric

I want to know exactly how does Cadence know Jensen is actually straight?

Cadence

Because he said that he is straight, and he should know better than anybody else. Besides, the point of my post was that his ability to play the part is more important than his sexuality.

AL

This is such a strange conversation to be having. Why should it matter if Jensen Atwood is straight or not(& if the man says he's straight,I believe him). And when he and the guy that plays Noah were on the cover of Clickque(now Clik)magazine, I believe he said he was straight then too. And one of the other co stars is on the cover of Advocate, out and proud.

But just on a general note, it's a tv show it's not real. It's entertainment and these are actors, people paid to pretend at fake stories. It's geat if when we see the show we feel some sort of validation, but it's still just make believe. Why does the show have to inclde gay actors in order to have our support. and why do we need to pick apart the real life of the actors involved.

What matters at the end of the day is if the man turned in a good performance.

PS:Oh, and I've seen footage of Sean Hayes away from Will & Grace and maybe my gaydar is off, but he sure seems straight to me.

Steven

To watch a video of Jenson talking about his sexuality click this link. This video also features Patrik and Darryl.

LaFontaye

Hmmm, Jenson seems a tad short.

SquallCloud

Ya know, it's odd. I'm a female and I'm a bit let down by Jensen being strait. I mean he can't help it. The Creator made him that way but I was very invested in the idea that he was gay or bi and I found that hot. Ah well!

On topic: The second season started with a bang and it seems that they got a little money int he budget. I love when a show does well and the network rewards them by upping their budget. Maybe they just got a better line produce to stretch the production values but it just seems a little bit richer or something. I love this show!

treashay

right its acting just like wesly in tu wong fuu he is straingt but only if u gay u kiss a nother man jensen your hot u can cum here any time

Jason

Hell, I love the show as well... I just received my first season DVD's and had a Noah's Arc Dinner Party last night. Down South you have to dream about West Coast Loving! LOL! As far as Jenson's sexuality... If he's only acting I can't wait to see his craft in other opportunities. He says he is single so the first season might just play out in his real life story!

Getreal

c'mon...im sorry but jensen atwood is sooo not str8 in my opinion.i mean c'mon.
the extras on the dvd highlight some stuff about him.i wont personally raise them.because at the end of the day it is his business...but anybody can say they arent something...i mean so much obvious gay personalities wont admit...because they dont have to.
lying doesnt kill people..so they'll feel free to do it when they feel.
how naive is it to believe that just because he says he's str8 he is.lmao.
thats real wack.i think he is interested in men.and its not a problem.some of ya'll act like its a crime to accuse him of being gay.

Getreal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUHXjQtyN_A

so how come keith u went with the assumtion that he was str8 in your question 2 him..and he just went with it>?..cause he clearly doesnt want the secret out or patrick doesnt..oh i dunno.
i think if he is str8 he'll lose fans..obviously not all of the mature ones etc..but it'll kill the reallness for some.

Jensen

This is Jensen Atwood. I just wanted to clarify something about my interview. I do not discuss my sexuality in public forums. When I do interviews, it's about the work. While I can appreciate your curiosity, I prefer to keep my private life private. So as far as my being identified in Kieth's article as "straight", I never confirmed anything about my sexuality. If you read my response where he slipped the "straight" part in the question- I discuss what it's like playing the character. In hindsight, I should have addressed the "straight" issue and explained my position, but that was my mistake. So I'd like to take this opportunity to address it here, since it's been raised. At no time have I confirmed or denied any speculation or rumors about my sexuality. I am thrilled to be involved in this worthwhile project and appreciate all the love Keith and countless others have shown us. Please respect my right to privacy and know that I have nothing but love for this show and our loyal fans.

Remember love, Jensen

Cocoa

Great save Jensen (PR machine...et al)
Truth is, addressing the sexuality and stressing that it is a non-issue or an issue of privacy is unnecessary - well, to those of us who are true fans. I love Wade and my friends and I frequently joke about being in love with the character...
Jensen Atwood may be a completely different person than Wade and whether that difference includes a different sexual preference is really irrelevant. I guess what is sad is that Jensen or the PR machine, feel the need to have a quick "blurb" to calm the gay fans that would allegedly desert the show because Jensen is (would be) straight. Give your OUT gay fans some credit Jen... we love your work and enjoy your mutual respect. Be yourself and we'll continue to love and support you for years to come.

Cocoa Rican

1TruScorp

If that was the real Jensen, I just want to say "What up mane.... U doing a good ass job and your private life outside of that show is NO ONE'S business but your own." It's like this, I'm a male and I love the show. I bought the first season DVD and everything. My best-friend (who is a lesbian) and I watched all 9 of the episodes last night. I was told about the show from a friend and last night was the first time I'd really paid attention to it cause before that, I'd only seen one of the episodes on LOGO.
Honestly, before this show: well, before I saw Wade. I really couldn't imagine being with a guy on a REAL level. I always saw it as a bull shyt phase or something, but his character really opened my eyes. I'm a very masculine dude and I'm only 20 but I'm REALLY ready to settle down because that's what it's really about. If I could find ONE dude like Wade, I would be so content in everything. Instead of questioning his sexuality, look deeper into the actual meaning behind the show.

KS

The main reason I thought Jensen was straight was because an extensive myspace profile lists him as such. It seems there are myspace profiles of him he did not create and if this is one of them, then damn, brother, you've got some crazy fans! And the most striking thing for me about his (possibly) being straight is that a black straight male actor playing gay is a pretty courageous thing. But either way, all the discussion is great, it keeps us challenging our assumptions and that's one of the most important things we can do. Peace.

I was afforded the opportunity to view the first season of Noah's ARC on DVD yesterday and I am in awe! I couldn't not believe the beautiful people on my television screen and not to mention they were casted in characters that brought back some very fond memories for me; each actor is perfect for the role they play. I wish the show much success and I relish the thought of seeing season two when it becomes available on DVD. Now that is the Da Gaga!

Valerie

I really enjoy the first season of NOAH'S ARC.I am really confused about Wade/Noah relationship." payback is a BITCH". Cheating is not good.I see the LOVE you have for NOAH in your eyes. It's just real LOVE.It's hurting him to see you kiss another man. There is only 3 episodes left. And my HEART is in suspence/hurting for you two WADE/NOAH to come together for some romantic LOVING/GOOD SEX............

tamika

i watch tha show all tha time and i had a felln he was straight...ma brotha always said that if he was really straight he woudnt kiss a guy but stright women kiss woman all for a role and thas all it is...acting in a role...i love tha show and i pray it lasts a very long time i send much love to the actors and the producers and i proud that ya'll hav made sumthing so unique

LOGAN

I am not attracted to Jensen or his character "Wade" on Noah's Arc. I met him at Splash in NYC a few weeks ago and he seems like a nice guy. He is attractive, in the classic sense of the word, but that's about it.

However, he gets mad love for representing us in such a good light on television. He is masculine, yet vulnerable and yielding. He is ardent, relationship-oriented, loving, etc. These are positive traits that we need represented in our media. I am happy that I can look at 'Wade" and see parts of me broadcasted to millions each week. Go Jensen! You get my vote as an actor!

Leron

Like KB said it's called acting, either way, I love the show, it brings meaning to life of some men of color relationships in todays gay lifestyle. I am sure many can relate to the show as I can.....

All the best!

Modell Boy

Sweet peas, let me make this easy for you all.

Jensen Antwood- GAY! If you can't spook an obviously gay man in 2006, you need to forfeit your BGM membership card. He's got more sugar in his tank than a gallon of red cool aid. Hell, he's a back-up dancer for heaven's sake.

Vincent...GAY! He's another gay back-up dancer for heaven's sake. What did Ian Polk do? Steal gay boys from a Janet Jackson concert or what? And is he even Black???????

We all know the deal with the other three.

BOBBY

I THINK THE SERIES HAS BEEN AMAZING. I HAVE THE 1ST SEASON ON DVD AND HAVE SEEN IT SEVERAL TIMES. I HOPE TO SEE THE 2ND SEASON THIS WEEKEND IN ATL. ANYWAY, THE SEXUALITY OF THE ACTORS IS SO UNIMPORTANT. CAN WE NOT JUST SAY WELL DONE AND BE THANKFUL THAT THE SERIES EXISTS? SO MUCH DISCUSSION ON JENSEN'S SEXUALITY. MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS ALEX AS HE REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF MY NIECE, WHO READS AS VICIOUSLY AS ALEX. PLEASE, LET US ALL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT NOAH'S ARC AS BEST WE CAN.

markus

I AGREE WITH BOBBY. LETS JUST BE THANKFUL THAT THEY ARE GIVING AS A WONDERFUL SHOW. I AM ASIAN AND I LOVE NOAHS ARC!

I find the show to be entertaining and feel that the actors on screen are usually not what they are on T.V. anyway.
So that being the case, one would assume that an actor like Jensen is playing a part and we shouldn't really take his good acting away from him by trying to question his honesty in saying that he is straight.
I think we watch the show for different reasons.
I will continue to watch it for the entertainment it gives me, not so much trying to figure out who the actors are off the screen.
I just hope that maybe they will add a few more episodes next year.
That can make me tired of a show when the season ends to quickly.

Leah and Diandrea

DEAR BOO,
My name is my Leah Percival, and my eldest sister Diandrea Walker, who is very passionate about the show, got myself and my the rest of my younger siblings addicted to the show. My sister and I find you and the cast very attractive in numerous ways, for example:the way Jensen Atwood (Wade) and Darryl Stephens (Noah) try to denie their love for one another. Also Rodney AKA Mr. Gir himself and tray's undeniable love for one another also Rodnie's crazy personality;this is a true fool. Ricky(Cristian)the hore himself has finally fell in love and he's at undeniable will to confess that but he knows deep down he has found the one for him. Doug (chance)has one of the most admiriable gay marriages their is. P.S:To Jensen Atwood, keep up the good work, and know their is a set of sisters that love and adore you and your work. With much love and respect we would love to meet you and the cast, cause trust we are your true fans, cause we've seen every show from season 1 up to this point, over and over.

Angelique

Hello everyone,
This is just my opinion only!!! I believe people in general love and like people of all preferences. The judging comes in when people find themselves sometimes secretly attracted to those who they feel that they should'nt have been attracted to. It's like a defense against what they may feel guilty of feeling. People must trust themselves more and honestly believe that the only one that could and should judge them is God. I love all people and I'm not a religious fanatic but I am God fearing....:)

jon

It's disappointing to learn that jensen is straight. It makes it a little less easy to fantasize about the guy. Curiously, it gives me an insight into why male stars don't want people to know that they are gay. It WOULD affect their box office appeal. Not just because some people are homophobic but because many women would be less interested in wathing them on the screen. I'm a little less interested in watching Jensen on this show know that I know he's straight. That probably isn't fair and may not make sense, but it's just how I feel.

P.S. In reference to the some of the above letters, it really shouldn't be difficult for a straight ACTOR to play a gay role. It is ACTING after all.

qtmia

Jensen is soooo fine ...and he's a great actor!!!

Jcextra

I just got word of this show having been in production by a few friends from Texas over the weekend and being that it was sounding like the format I've been wanting in a show, I had to rush out and buy the dvd versions. There are three from what I could see and I must say Mr. Atwood, go out and buy a canvas that is 16 feet tall, because you my brutha are about to receive some great offers from the production studios and you'll need room or space for all those tropies. I think everyone should applaud the director, Patrick Ian Polk for doing such a great arrangement for all the characters lives. It is not everyday you get to see roles of young 30 something and 40 something year old Black men givin each other a WARM EMBRACE. This show guides us through this transition of exceptional behavior by African American men and for that, we should be thankful and encourage more of it. Mr. Atwood, is not gay. He has curiosity and that is no crime and i encourage him to continue to extend his warmth onscreen and off.

Kyle Honore

OKay I understand that says he is straight but the chemistry on Noahs ark is un achievable....(not to say that Mr. Atwood isnt a wonderful actor because he is but...the fact is Gay is hard to fake...and it impersonating a homosexual male has to have an effet on ones mind and heart...)So in Jensen committing a sin??? He is kissin a male!!! Would he be condemned to hell with the rest of us... I dont have the answer to that question.. And neither do you...Another FACT is he's in the entertainment industry and him coming out (admitting to being GAY) could be fatal to his career.. I wouldnt mind if he is cause I believe that we are perfect for each other especially if he is anything like his character Wade on "Noah's Ark". But if he is he isnt gonna be out and open about it he has shit future and career to look ouy for it

Frank's Princess[TypeKey Profile Page]

Oh, good lawd! Who gives a damn whether he's str8 or not? Like he's remotely tangible to most of us who watch the show?? I mean, COME ON! It's all well and good that he "prefer to keep my private life private", but why do we really care? Would we stop watching if it were suddenly revealed that he has 3 baby mommas?!?! He's a handsome, OK actor (and I stress OK) tryin' to make sure they (LOGO) keeps cuttin' the check! Get over it, people!

MoeMoe

Gay or not - Jensen is a great actor who does a wonderful job protraying the character Wade. As a point of reference, I am a hetero woman and adore the show because it's a black show!!!!! The many issues addressed within the show relate to black people whether your straight or gay!!!

Spread light and good Karma.

Moe

Brandi

When me and my sister watch Noah's Arc we find ourselves saying Wade this Wade that, it is his character that makes us love him and quite honestly we need to thank Patrik Polk for that he invented the Wade character, now don't get me wrong Jensen Atwood plays wade to a tee but we must remember he played a thug on the NBC show heist and the effect was different so I guess we need to keep in our minds that on a day to day basis he wakes up Jensen not Wade so would we really care if he was gay if we saw him as Jensen every Wed. night, instead of wade probaly not but with all that said Jensen, Wade , thug whatever, nothing can take away the fact that is one of the finest black men on T.V.

Alisha

What ever you do, do it to the best of your ability. I love to watch aman that is so secure u=in their manhood that they can kiss another man or have a love scene and not worry about how the public whom if the opportuinty presented it self would do more that that for no reason at all. I love what Jensen Atwood does and he looks so good doing it. LOVE YOU SWEETIE WHEN YOU'RE READY TO MARRY SO AM I!!!!!

dalphine

I just like to say as a straight female I love this show and I love the character Wade I think jensen plays him well. I think Wade and Noah is the 2006 couple they do have good chemistry together and I can't wait till season 3 begins.

Please don't keep us waiting to long and can you at least give us 10 or 12 esp. I'm waiting.

Derek

I just think the show is off the chain. Black Gay men have been looked down upon so much in life. I think the show is opening a lot of peoples eyes and minds. And no I don't consider it a Black Queer as folk, Jensen is a good actor, I can't stand to see another man cry, but he is good at what he does. He is the epitome of a good black male actor. In the gay lifestyle you see exactly what it is being portrayed, what I like is the commradare among the friends, we don't have that today. Why are so many black men very bitter, and vindictive? Noah's Arc shows how we as black man can be and that is one of the highlights to me, the positive things about the show. Jensen you da man, he shows his emotions, had me crying when Noah was attacked and he went on his vigilante raid, much success to you my brother I am proud to see a young brother doing so great, and he is humble too.

christina

I want to start off by saying I love Noah's Ark from the day I first saw it. There is nothing wrong with straight men playing gay roles, I think It's great. It will always be one of my favorite shows and great eye candy! Jensen Atwood is one of the most sexiest men I ever seen. The rest of the cast are cute too! So more power to them, and I will always be a fan of the show!!

kss

I don't understand how people can't accept a str8 guy playing a gay guy and not consider him to be just acting.
An actor plays a murderer or a doctor and we all know that in most cases they are not those characters in the real world.
Enjoy the show and leave it at that.

Cynthia

Who care's about everyone's sexual preference on the show, key word here is SHOW, and it's full of Black folks, let keep that in mind first. Second, the show is damn good. Ok some of the acting seems fake at times, but me and my friends talk about some of these same issues EVERY DAY, although, I no longer tell them it's about"4 black GAY friends"(the response was not very favorable) but I watch every week just the same. Can you tell me when season 3 is coming and forget "who's gay and who's not????"

lisa

I am a 40+ yo straight white women who LOVES watching Noah's Arc. I watch it with my 22 year old daughter...

Wade you are beautiful. I hope to see you casted in more movies/TV.

This is a great series..funny, endearing and sexy!

lisa from Philly

I'm soo INlove with jensen atwood I watch the show ever chance I get I love the fact a black man is confortable in his own skin to beable to play a gay role and not be afraid I just love it . I own the DVD collection and I'm so proud of his work I totally admire Him, I also am a starving actress and want to play role that are a challenge

malik

jensen are should i say(wade)you are so sexy.Iwould lke to kow could you have a three sum with me and my gay friend PLEASE(SWEETY)

dalphine

I just like to say I love the show and can't wait for season three so come on logo let us know something.

I just brought the DVD and it's hot wade and noah are the HOT couple. I also thinks it's great Jensen Atwood is comfortable with himself to play a gay character.

Keep up the good work you fine looking man.

tee

I think Noahs ark is truly a wonderful and inspirational show.

fal

I don't care what anybody says, Jensen is definitely gay! I only looked him up because my friend told me to because she likes him. So I came to this site and just now turned to the show. I could only watch for 7 minutes. It is too much for me. Everybody on there may not be gay(the males that don't kiss and caress other males), but Jensen is definitely one of the gay ones. I am still in shock about the station LOGO being a gay station. I had no clue what that stood for. Wow...

fal

To the person that said actors play murderers and doctors...True, but they're not ACTUALLY killing people or really operating on people and saying "it's called acting"...but, he is ACTUALLY tongue kissing, licking, and rubbing another man and straight men don't do that...what more do you all need?...males don't even have to be on the dl with you females, because you can't tell the difference between a gay and straight man anyway...I'm still in shock and I can't believe you people really think he's straight...crazy lol

dalphine

fal I never seen any tongue between Jensen and Darryl when they kissed, this show isn't for everyone and you seem like the person it's not meant for. No harm meant in this post.

Lora73

ok I have to say Jensen Atwood is drop dead gorgeous and and an awesome actor along withthe entir cast of Noah's Arc and I am oh so disappointed that the show will no longer be returning for a 3 season so we will never have the chance to see if Wade and Noah get back together much less find out if Wade survives the car accident. Keep up the great acting and good luck in your future ventures Jensen.

montimo

Lora73, When did you hear that the show wasn't coming back for season 3. Is that true? I hope not. I too am so caught up in the storyline; they can't leave us hanging.
As far as the sexuality of the actors, I think it disappoints us, because as gay men, we all want to meet a guy like Wade and have a relationship with him. So when we hear that the actor portraying that role claims to be str8, we feel soome loss of hope. I applaud Jensen for his acting, and don't dispute any claim that he , or any of the other actors, make about their sexuality. They do have the right to their privacy. I will still fantasize about meeting someone like their character. That's what entertainment is all about anyway. Isn't it?

Big Mike

I just read on line, that there won't be a third season of Noah's Arc, and I so wanted another season. It's such a great show, and I thought it would run much longer than it has. It made my week, seeing you and the guys working together. That said, thanks for everything, and I wish you continued success in your career. Oh, and I hope to see you, in the movie version of the show, and if you run into Darryl Stephens, tell him he is loved. You two, work well together. If we're lucky, you'll work together, again.

ToeToe

Hmm...this is a very good discussion. As a 30 plus African American female, I can say that I LOOOVE this show and Jensen Atwood, too. I am blessed to have 5 gay family members (3 male, 2 female) so I know 1st hand the struggles and obstacles that have to be surmounted to gain "acceptance" with self. That said, I have to agree with many of the posters who state that the gay posters on this site are being just as judgemental as their hetero counterparts. Whether Jensen's fine-as-wine, fellow Virgo behind is gay or not is really here nor there.....what matters is why in the flip is LOGO NOT renewing the show for a 3rd season? If this s*** is true, what are we as fans gonna do about it?

Tony B in Orlando

I do have to agree with most of the bloggers here. Mr. Atwood has done a "Terrific" job as 'Wade'. I really hope that he does not get typcasted in future projects. As for the show, "I love it"! The second season did seem a bit rushed, and crammed with too much material. Also, the feel of the show was lost, as far as backgrounds and make-up. Anyone who has lived in L.A. automatically recognizes the differences. Most of the scenery is not there, and everyone looks a bit pale. However, I recently read that due to the Huge popularity of the show, there is a movie in the making. It picks up where season 2 left off. Can anyone expand upon this?

John

I recently discovered the show on DVD (LOGO is not available here) and absolutely loved it. Wade is my favorite character and I think Jenson Atwood did a fine job with his performance. If there is not a third season, I hope a movie is in the making. Regardless, I hope Jenson enjoys much success in his career.

Tony In Arkansas

What i want to know is will there be a season 3 i hear a lot of people saying there will not be a season 3 and they saw it on Jenson Atwood myspace page. I'm in arkansas and the only way you can get the logo chennal is by direct tv or dishnet work cause the cable co's here don't carry logo chennal. i really would like to see the show in season 3 and see wade and noah get back togerher

Stanley L. Walker

I imagine it is the same way married actors or actors like Charlize Theron can kiss other people they have no sexual interest in over the course of their work. Charlize and Shakira are the only actors I know of who have spoken up about that topic and spoken honestly. Shakira did so in a video interview but you can hear Charlize's comments on the commentary track of Aeon Flux. They may help you understand, Patrick.

Jensen Atwood, one of the finest brother's I've seen on tv in years. I'm a gay man and I tell you what, this may seem a little immature but I have a big crush on this guy. I have him as my screen saver and painted in my mind. I'm not just looking at his physical appearance but I've read his interviews and he seems so down to earth. If he reads this, I wish you the best success and hope to one day meet him. Peace
