Statehood For D.C.

As a former resident of the District of Columbia and a concerned American citizen, I have long favored statehood for the District of Columbia. Washington's sole representative in Congress, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, has been fighting for D.C. statehood for years now. Residents of the District -- mostly black -- pay taxes but don't get a vote in Congress. That violates the principle of "no taxation without representation," the very idea at the heart of the American Revolution.
In this interview on Comedy Central's Colbert Report, Congresswoman Norton gives Steven Colbert a few "civics lessons" on the way the country really works. She's a smart, capable woman, an effective voice for the District of Columbia, and she (and the District) deserves a vote in Congress. Looks like Congresswoman Norton is a great sport and a natural for comedy. I wish much success to Norton and Colbert.

I love it when a black woman wears her hair natural. It is the most beautiful hair to behold in the whole wide world. Thank Congressperson Norton, for your efforts on behalf of DC and for rocking a natural like Cecily Tyson before her weave.

LMBAO!!!. Del. Norton KILLED it!! Quite hilarious. Thanks, Keith for posting this hilarious clip. That has to be the funniest Colbert interview yet. But then again I may be biased since I too, live a mile from the U.S. Capitol bt don't live in the United States.

Colbert is my guy! The Report one of the few things I can still share with my Rebpublican--ahem--yes, Republican friends.

Del. Norton shows why she is so beloved in D.C. As one of the few elected officials in D.C. with any common sense, she will have her seat as long as she wants to keep it.

I love Del. Norton! Usually Colbert talks circles around folks and they end up looking silly, but she was so sharp that SHE was in control! And I loved the way she said she wasn't even remotely attracted to white men without explicitly saying it. "You are just a plain vanilla man..." lol I love it.

That was hillarious. I liked how she was trying to out cheese him. They should hire her as another correspondent! Very funny. On a serious note, DC deserves statehood and everyone in America should be fighting for that.
