The new film "Dirty Laundry" hasn't been released yet, but it is already creating quite a buzz in Hollywood. A few weeks ago, TV host (and Oprah's best friend) Gayle King moderated a special screening of the film. And on Sunday the New York Post ran an article about the film on its famous "Page Six" column. Now today, the first trailer for the film makes its world premiere here on this site.
The film stars Loretta Devine, Rockmond Dunbar, Jenifer Lewis, Terri J. Vaughn, Sommore and many others in a comedy about family drama. You can also get a view of the film in select cities this summer during a special "Sneak Preview Tour." Dirty Laundry will be shown at the UrbanWorld Film Festival in New York this Thursday and at the Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco on Friday.
The film is beautifully shot and looks amazing on the screen. However, the quality of the videotape here is a little off because of the technology of uploading and downloading. The film was written and directed by Maurice Jamal (Chappelle’s Show, The Ski Trip, Make My Day) and executive produced by Nathan Hale Williams, Crystal McCrary Anthony and Adrienne Lopez. The trailer is also available from Jumpcut here or by YouTube below.

I had the pleasure of seeing a special screening of 'Dirty Laundry' while at the D.C. Black Pride. I was very, very pleased to see a story that took on such a pertinent subject.
There was a lot of laughter, and a lot of contemplative silence througout the audience. There was even one man who stood beside me (the room was just that packed) who began to cry and I reached over and rubbed his shoulders to comfort this stranger/yet brother of our experience. The movie was just that emotionally packed. TRUST ME Y'ALL, SEEING DIRTY LAUNDRY WILL BE A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait until the general audience can ride the high we rode while viewing this remarkable film. Thanks, Maurice and Nathan. Kudos!

I received a last minute notice of the film's screening last week in Boston and gave up my only free night of the week. I was not disappointed at all. The movie was great; it told a familiar story in a very honest yet entertaining way. The hall wasn't full but everyone there loved it. I was also very impressed with the writer/directer, Maurice. What a guy! Smart, confident and determined, yet very down to earth and humble.
Everyone, gay, straight or whatever, needs to see this movie. While the obvious story is about a black gay man, the real story is about family.
Don't miss it!

"Dirty Laundry" is chock-full of humor throughout, and it is poignant in most of the right places. It is likely to be successful, I imagine, and particularly so with moviegoers who raved about Tyler Perry's successful "Madea" movies, for "Dirty Laundry" generously resembles Mr. Perry's winning formula with regard to (lovable?) stereotypical characters and the typical places where Black folks might be gathered en masse to get spirited or act out. The domineering Black maternal figure once again takes off her apron to clean up the proverbial mess within her family. (A role played with acute and subtle brilliance by Loretta Devine.) Like Madea, she is the film's principal agitator as well as its spiritual/moral equalizer. And "Laundry's" "Big Mama" is aided by her well-heeled (in both senses of the word), sassy, sexy sister played by Jenifer Lewis in true diva camp form. See Madea and Lynn Whitfield yet? If not, then you will by the time everyone gathers at the picnic, the church, or sits to the dinner table.

This movie looks like it will be carried by the performances of Loretta DeVine and Jennifer Lewis.

I've got my ticket for Dirty Laundry for LA's OutFest this year.
The fare seemed to be too much of the same theme over and over again. I've been an OutFest member for five years and I go for unusual films, documentaries and shorts. The ones that don't often get distribution or screening schedules beyond art house theaters any other time of year.
I'm only going to about five films, rather than my usual fifteen or sixteen.
One will be the documentary "The Saint of 9/11" about Father Mychal Judge who died ministering to firefighters that day.
A musical, "Colma". A local film featuring my friend Wilson Cruz, and the boy's shorts.
The ongoing screenings throughout the year for members has given me an opportunity for what I missed during the festival.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Dirty Laundry and hopefully gay films will take on more diversified themes and storylines to attract wider audiences.

I'm an intern at Human Rights Campaign for the summer. I had the opportunity to see the film a few weeks back and meet Maurice. I have to say it was absolutely amazing, and so was he. I saw my story on screen even though I am from a different country. And, aside from all of the serious elements of the film, it was downright hilarious. We were cracking up in that HRC building, and quoting Ms. Divine for days afterward! If you haven't seen it and you want to (I encourage you too) check out the dates for the tour on www.hrc.org/dirtylaundry. Great Film!!!!
