bushsotu2006.jpgI found this picture of last night's State of the Union speech on the White House web site. But given the actual state of the union, I can't understand why this man is smiling. Maybe he knows something I don't.

I couldn't help but notice as I was clicking over to the comments section that you have a link to a site called "Smirking Chimp." Now, ain't that apropo. Dubya is smiling because he still has 3 years to screw this nation and no one can do anything 2 him (not even his right wing conservative zealots). I think he should be standing in the well of the Senate explaining his "high crimes and misdemeanors." Shem hotep.

Keith -

Thought provoking. I hate to admit it though, I'm like the majority of Americans and feel that right now that Bush is the best president in place to protect our nation. Unfortunately, to me democrats are way too liberal regarding that issue and it is obvious in their Pre-9/11 agenda even now - like they're in a time warp. 9/11 happened as a result of 8 yrs. of a passive approach by the Clinton Administration after the 1993 attack in our nation (World Trade Center).

Regardless of what Bush does or doesn't do, the far left is so hateful and anti-republican that it makes no difference. They will always paint a negative picture. Can't blame the adminstration for ignoring them....there's no clear message or alternative being presented. Just "We Hate Bush". That's stupid and not getting across. People aren't big fans of Bush, but the alternatives seem powerless and clueless against him. Case in point....the attempted Alito filibuster by Kerry and Kennedy was stopped quickly by Dems and Republicans alike.

Dems need some serious help cause no one is listening to them either. Powerless. And I'm a moderate democrat.

Bernie

Republicans now have control of the White House, both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court. They have no one to blame but themselves for the mess they have and will continue to create.

In the history of the world, no dictatorship has ever left power without bloodshed.

I'm really surprised that LJ would identify with "the majority of Americans." I think I am more alarmed that we are allowing Bush and the rest of the governmental officials to sell us these politics of fear without really questioning why we should be afraid. Why are people attacking us? Bush and the government disparage people and countries relentlessly; other countries who don't espouse capitalist, democratic values are portrayed as evil, warmongerers. When are we going to realize that everybody else in world just may not be the problem. I wonder if the problem might be here at home. I bet there is a whole class of people out there who might agree.

and just why was Cindy Sheehan all of a sudden arrested and not in attendance...On wonders..

Nyah Molineaux

Troy:

Cindy Sheehan got arrested because she was wearing an anti-war t-shirt. The last I heard she was in a Capitol Hill Jail.

LJ:

Are you serious that Bush is the best president to run this nation? This is the same president who knew about 9/11 , and did not do anything .
The same president who sat in a chair 7 minutes while the whole country is being attacked.
The same president who knew about Katrina and waited 4 days before help. Shouldnt a president be timely when it comes to national emergencies?
But to you LJ, probably you are on FEMA time.

Brace yourselves, because everything that we know and love are at stake. Our civil liberties are being taken away, and the FBI and CIA might as well be the fucking KGB...In twenty years, the constitution will be re-written under the terms of rich white men who could careless about the common people, Democrat or Republican. America (Babylon), like all great nations will collapse by the hands of people like George "monkey" Bush. And when it happens it will be just like all the other great nations that once was. I think that Republicans are hateful, crooks, and only care about themselves. Somebody read me Karl Marx=Future American Ideology.

WHAT WE HAVE TO DO IS FOCUS ON 2008 AND NOT LET PEOPLE SIDE TRACT THE VOTING POPULATE. WE AS A PEOPLE NEED TO BE ABOUT THE BUSINESS OF SELF-PRESERVATION. WHEN THESE YOUNG BROTHAS AND SISTER HIT ME UP TALKING ABOUT SAME GENDER MARRIAGE AND NOT TALKING ABOUT THE DEVASTATING RESULTS AIDS, DIABETES, AND UNEMPLOYMENT HAS HAD ON THE BLK COMMUNITY. I SEND THEM ON THERE WAY.

@Carlton G. - You speak as though you've met me. Interesting....but you don't.

Just admit it folks, the far left is far out of touch. The pandering response from Gov. Kaine was evidence of that. That man is anti-gay, anti-abortion, and spoke about his Missionary work. He has been in office all of 2 weeks. Give me a break.....the party is grabbing at straws.

Gordon Newman

As always, the comments made about Democrats who do not support the Bush agenda are heavily critical about the stance the party takes, thus, Republicans, they offer no real solutions for their own agenda. I truly do believe that those who support Bush "HATE" Democrats because even though they have lost it, still manage to tell the truth and expose what this Administration is doing to its people. Abusing the population, especially the less fortunate, is nothing to brag about. And I truly do believe that god is watching with a keen eye. As well as the apparent dislike for those who are not white, male, middleclass, and republican will get its just deserts.

P.S. lj, I do not know you, but if the far left is out of touch, the far right is way, way out of touch. People like you who support this agenda are "Peter's" ( One of Jesus Disciples). When you feel the real brunt of the decisions these people are making, you will "Deny" them. Because if you live a little longer, you surely will my brother.

A good analysis of the truth-stretching the SOTU speech.

How can a man who knows so little about foreign policy be the best person to deal with an international crisis? Get out of the mindset that terrorists simply have fun blowing things up! Then get out of the mindset that Democrats would permit it or, are having fun watching them do it. Terrorists (domestic and foreign) are frustrated with American oppression and we need to deal with that!

So the solution to terrorism for this administration is to make more enemies? Sounds like somebody's reading the foreign policy manual upside down...

Excellent work. Great research. This is what I like about your site.

He's smiling because he still can't believe that Americans are so stupid that they still put up with him. It's so funny, he can't get over it. He just lies and lies and no matter what the dems say, the media gives him a free pass. For example, he's got people thinking that if he been able to illegally wiretap the 911 hi-jackers, we would have been able to avoid the disaster on 9-11. The truth of the matter is, two of the 9-11 hi-jackers were living with an FBI informant weeks before 9-11th. What is more, the FBI was already eavesdropping on these guys (with a warrant!) and knew something was up. Several of them were even listed in the telephone book. When they got the signal to commence the attack, it had already been captured by the NSA. The President had already received his top secret briefing warning that Al Quaeda was going to attack in the US. Richard Clarke was running around with his "hair on fire" trying to get the Bush administration to stop the attack. But no one listened to him because he was a hold over from teh Clinton Administration. Bush kept on drinking and chopping wood on vacation. Then the terrorists struck, and Condoleeza said "no one could have ever imagined" that someone would use airplanes for weapons. The tapes of the attack signal to the terrorists was translated on September 12th.
In spite of all of the evidence of their own incompetence as the true cause for September 11th, Bush says we need to give up our civil rights and make him a dictator. And people fall for it!! Can you see why he's smiling now? He's surrounded by idiots.

Precious, Precise, POWERFUL, Poignant, Politically
Astute Analysis and Answer ALL-in-One by the man,
who has my vote for President, Keith Boykin!!!

Remembering and saluting the same in Coretta Scott
King and recalling Dr. King's "Drum Major" speech,
what is vital for us, now, and bankrupt in the Office of the President and both sides of our own
Congress is SERVICE, that is, CIVIL SERVANTS OF A
CIVILIZED SOCIETY: "to serve is to lead," as Dr.
King eloquently evoked the admoniton of Jesus to his own ambitious few with self-serving, status
seeking, materially focused followers of who would be first among that motley crew.
Those diverse disciples of the Rainbow found themselves in and drawn together in the one LIGHT,
LOVE, LIFE and LIBERTY of serving the poor: freeing the prisoners, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry and welcoming the stranger, all of which, Dr. King said for us to say, "I TRIED TO..." as his legacy, not his degrees, awards and honors.

What we are seeing in the BUSH DICKCHENEYSHIP are
"QUALITY OF LEADERSHIP CRIMES" by the arrogant, overly opulent, self-indulging, self-righteous
out-of-touch WHITE Bouffant, bulging-eye, bigoted
taught mama's boy, who was born with a silver foot up his ass, causing and seeing calamity, yet, saying, "They've [we've] never had it so good!" You name it HAITI, IRAQ, KATRINA DIASPORA,
NEW ORLEANS and on and on and...NO! STOP IT!!!

The only thing standing in the way of any of our
own dreams, goals, gifts and the BUSH DICKCheneyship is our own silence or just pointing fingers, instead of joining hands, heads and hearts! Let's be the best 'drum majors' each
of us are meant to be and together, we can do it better: IMPEACHBUSH.COM! "We, the People" forced
DICKtator Nixon, another far-right megalomaniac, [a mentor of DICKCheneyship] out of office!!!

YOU CAN DO IT ! I CAN DO IT!! WE CAN DO IT!!!

BBBBBEEEEELLLLLIIIIIEEEEEVVVVVEEEEE!!! JUST BE IT!

Then, let the campaign begin: KB for President!!!

John Connell

I, for one, would vote for Keith Boykin for President!

He has so much more intellignece, charisma, insight and honesty than this crowd ever will or can!

blacklatina

I 2nd that John Connell :-) I'm so over our current Administration til it's not funny. It's so embarrassing.

Legal Rebel

The references in Bush's speach that Keith enumerated are insightful. It really reinforces the fact civil right nor human rights are cardinal issues in the 2nd Bush administration. Conversatives have taken a backwards approach to cutting the national deficit and improving the nation's economy. They don't seem to understand that the foundation should be education and social service. My vote for the next President is Keith as well.

RE: lj's comment above that "I'm like the majority of Americans and feel that right now that Bush is the best president" Polls indicate that is not the situation. As to "9/11 happened as a result of 8 yrs. of a passive approach by the Clinton Administration",I say that 911 happened because those terrorists hated the US, and were not tracked by those under the Bush administration. Constant blame to Clinton belies the fact that Bush is the President, and is responsible for events on his watch as Clinton was on his. And as to "there's no clear message or alternative being presented" ignores that Democratic pleas for oversight which might address problems has been routinely denied by Republicans. The "the attempted Alito filibuster by Kerry and Kennedy was stopped quickly by Dems and Republicans alike" Wrong- unfortunately the 4 Dems voting Alito was the problem. And, "They will always paint a negative picture" is true because amidst an unwarranted invasion of a foreign country that has killed thousands for misguided policies, a record deficit, massive corruption w/in the Republican Part, and lies being told over and over, things in America ARE somewhat "negative".
