10 Marines Killed; Bush Stays Course

coffins of U.S. soldiersIn one of the deadliest attacks against American forces in months, 10 U.S. marines were killed outside the central Iraqi town of Fallujah yesterday. The last successful large-scale attack on U.S. forces was in August, when 14 American troops were killed by a roadside bomb. Since then, the popularity of George Bush's war has declined steadily.

Meanwhile, the president continues to try to convince us that the war is going well. In the face of a revolt in Congress and in the public, the president traveled to the safe territory of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis to release a supposedly declassified strategy to win the war in Iraq. More of the same. As the New York Times points out, Bush's strategy amounts to the hopeful wish that we win. The Times compares President Bush's conduct of the war to President Nixon's handling of Vietnam, and Nixon wins the comparison. The Times says Bush "seems less in touch with reality than Richard Nixon." We're in deep trouble.

It bears stating that some of these casualties might not have happened if the government didn't keep expelling talented, brave and committed
gay and lesbian soldiers we paid a pretty penny to train and be ready for action.

Our government needs every single body and soul who volunteers. And discrimination and discharge for orientation alone, just shows the military is not only trying to shut the doors after the horse has left the barn...but then they procedd to shoot it in the head.

I was never "for" the war & it breaks my heart to see so many of our countries finest die for what should never have been in the first place. It's a tragedy but where do we go from here? Do we just up & pull out? Is it that simple? Considerng that this war, that the U. S. initiated against Iraq, has resulted in the complete destruction of their infrastructure, should we not clean up the mess we made? Is it right to go over there, kill untold thousands of their citizens, fuck up their countries infrastructure for what amounts to nothing & then say "Fix it yourselves. ADIOS!"? The insurgency has the country locked down with fear. Do we really want to leave it that way?

It's important to remember that the U. S. started this whole thing. My heart goes out to the families of those ten marines & to every family who has suffered lost to this unjust war but leaving may not be an easy option at this point. We got ourselves into this mess. To just walk away from it like it's no big deal is an insult to all who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Bush should be brought up on charges for what he's done but we know that will never happen. He lied to justify this whole thing. It sickens me to know that all of these families have to bury their loved ones because of his lies but he gets to walk away from the whole thing & pat himself on the back for accomplishing whatever he wanted to accomplish through this deceit.

I wish there was some way we could make him dip into his millions (or is it billions?) & pay every family who suffered lost to his war!

10 marines killed, but how many thousands of Iraqis dead? how many countless tortured? some "course".

we don't belong over there, period. the longer we stay the more people murdered by guns, bombing of cities and now suicide/car bombs.

the whole thing sickens me to no end.

What a tragic waste! I couldn't imagine "W" sending these boys to their deaths if he had actually seen combat himself. If he has a conscience, I hope it keeps him awake in terror every night, dreaming of the dismembered bodies of young Americans. The ones he sent to their deaths for his own personal agenda and on the basis of lies. We need to pull out of Iraq now. The killing in Iraq is by us and because of us and will not stop until we leave. We can make reparations after we leave with financial and tecdhnical assistance. Vietnam is now a thriving country, despite our defeat there. There is no need for us to continue wasting the lives of our men and the Iraqi people just to prove how macho we are.

people should understand that we will not be pulling our troops out of Iraq for a long while, i predict that we will be in Iraq, with a substantial amount of forces well into the 08 Elections... and although I agree with Rep. Murtha on pulling our troops, there is no way we can win this war. and republicans and conservatives can talk into they are blue in the face... this war is not winnable... and anyone understanding the term "path dependency" knows that this battle is just beginning... they were on tv, they being politicians talking about it taking 25 years to win this war....Bush's approval rating can drop down to 7, and that won't make a difference... the only way to stop this war, is for Congress to stop appropriating funds for it...and that is highly unlikely until the well after the 06 elections...
