"Noah's Arc" is quickly becoming my favorite show on television. For those who missed it, last night's episode was a tour de force, capped by an unbelievably dynamic drag performance by the four principals lip synching to the tune of Brainstorm's classic hit "Lovin' Is Really My Game." I wasn't expecting it, but I've never seen a more energetic and entertaining drag show anywhere on television.

I don't care what anybody says, I am loving this show. Noah and Wade deal with their issue over masculinity. Wade comes out to his friends. Chance confronts his cheating boyfriend. Ricky faces up to his sex addiction. And Alex comes out in drag! And he looks beautiful, a mixture of Toccara and Janet. Never in all my years have I seen a single half hour of television that so brilliantly captured so many real issues relevant to black gay men. This show is now must-see TV.

Those are my girls!! LOL What are the chances that Noahs Arc will get an Emmy??

Keith, Hey! I agree with all that you have said on this groundbreaking series. It brings home all too well how "starved" we have been to see our own experience on the little screen. These brothers reflect a broad range of us "kids" and I too am loving it! As you and I have discussed before, variety makes our lives ever more rich. Prayers and best wishes to all those brothers you mentioned in need of love and support.
Peace,
Bobby E.

I LOVED tonight's episode... I love how every week they seem to address the issues that we were all talking about the week before! They've got it going on...

In the meantime, head over to the new Noah's Arc messageboard - http://p105.ezboard.com/bnoahsarc

You can find all the music played in each episode in the Music forum!

OKAY, THAT DID IT!!! this is now my favorite new television show. all i ask of any show is to let the characters surprise themselves and me, and this one does it - now consistently.

if that wasn't enough, we get a STOMP OUT SHOW-STOPPER of a musical number. ...didn't see it coming. IT FREAKED ME OUT.

this is appointment television for me.

Clarifications [from previous NA post] and such:

Laura [if you're reading] look up the words parallel, relations and relationships and once you learn what they mean maybe then you'll get my point. And please inform us, you seem to know so much that; maybe you can enlighten the masses as to why "queers" [whomever they are] are so filled with self-hate in 2005....

Noah's Arc is not a drama Xavier and the "queeny" gay life it depicts is definitely as the "girls" would say a "gag" and I have come to accept this sitcom and even enjoy it. I, in fact, have never despised these types of gay men and have seen plenty of them in real life, whereas I am not suprised by the stereotypical "typecasting" in NA or Beauty Shop or The Longest Yard.

In retrospect the issue of masculinty is so relative to an individual that for me it is not the true issue but rather the issue of manhood [which is oft defined based on perceived masculinity] is what is key. I am a man first, my race and sexuality are secondary to whom I am as a man. And moreover, are aspects of my life that add to my depth as a person.

That is where the writing is lacking for me -- it is just too much about being gay and the perceived gay experience and less about who these four friends are individually. Though the best writing has honed in on their collective experience, it is when we get to the personal lives of the characters that I get lost! Keith, maybe you can get what I am saying -- aren't you and Nate's life much more than being two gay black men in NY? Maybe, it's just the generation of us twenty-somethings who have elected to not embrace the clubs, promiscuity and drama that is the "life"; those who while we're very comfortable with who we are as people aren't just the people we see on TV. This wasn't what I expected of the show because as another reader said in their post before the Logo launch this show wasn't just about being the gayest you could be. This is the lack of common [read: everyday] depth that non "kids" just won't relate to.

"B*tch, What's the Dee Ga Ga" LoL, It's official, I absolutely LOVE this God dayum show! Tonight's show was great, especially the in-depth conversation (again)! about "Hyper-masculinity" and effemininity in Gay Culture, and also the "Mesmerizing" Drag Show performance at the end waz off da hook! You can best believe I will be watching the re-runs through out the week, over and over again, until next week's "All Brand New Episode" Okay!

I agree with Keith 100%,last nights episode really put the seal of approval on this series. The first episode was somewhat shaky but I feel as if the show has found it's footing and is off and running.Everyone is entitled to their opinions but that feminine vs. masculine issue is no big deal with me because I think that Patrick is doing a wonderful job in debunking much of the controversy surrounding that argument. He is showing that he isn't afraid to confront an issue head on and that's one of the many things that I'm starting to love about this show. I am so glad that he is also dealing with the issue concerning some of the communities fascination with the " thug" image. I do love this show, the characters are great and you have two breakout couples in Noah and Wade as well as Trey and Alex who I so love. Major kudos, bigups and any other accolade that comes to mind.

Lee

I'm making Wednesday 'must-see' tv. As the episodes progress, they become better and better.

phd2b11

I need to watch this show. I saw the first episode and have missed the next two. Damn direct TV. They're giving me the run arounds about installing my satellite. That's the only way we can get Logo here. I won't stop until they install it!!

jazzi

Alex did work the drag, didn't he? And the full split? Never would have thought his big ass could've pulled that one off but he did. Go Girl!
Now as for the other guys sporting drag, can I say YUK?! I think these are some pretty good looking guys, especially my little Noah (kiss, kiss) but they would make woefully ugly women. Leave it alone. PULEASE! Drag does nothing for them. Other than that, it was a great show.

Fratman1906

Y'all, this ain't right. I can't get the LOGO channel in my viewing area, and the cable company won't even return my calls about it. Someone near the Raleigh area who has it needs to have a Noah's Arc (potluck) dinner party on Wednesday night and invite us country cousins who are being deprived. I may have to drop cable and get a satellite (and fight with the homeowners association about the dish). Anyway, keep up the dialogue. Some us are living vicariously through your viewing experiences. Shem hotep!

BOOKER

I'm sorry, I guess I'm the only that just doesn't get it. This show is just not what I thought it would and I am REALLY DISAPPOINTED with how the NOAH character is playing out.

I mean the whole WADE storyline was a bit unrealistic to me. First, as someone who is supposedly uncomfortable wit hhis sexuality and in the process of coming out yourself.....it would seem to me that he would be a bit more taken aback by seeing NOAH in FULL DRAG. To dismiss it by him saying....YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL BUT I PREFER YOU AS A MAN just seemed a little to passe. I'd expect that from ALEX's husband becasue they been together for so long that he would support him no matter what, but not from someone so new like WADE. And then the reaction he got from his boys......I think the storyline would have been more REALISTIC and INTERESTING if they weren't so " NO BIG DEAL" about it. Come on!!!!

I just don't see anything in this show I can connect myself with I guess. I'll try to support it because it's about gay African-Americans...I just wish I could relate better to it. Awesome DRAG SHOW aside, all I see are women...whether in make up or not. I gues that's why I didn't see the DRAG SHOW as much of a stretch.

The only thing that really keeps me going is my curiosity as to how CHANCE and his boy work things out....becasue I know in the season finale they end up get married (oops...hope I didn't spoil it for everybody).

Brian B

I love this show! I've been following it since the buzz started over a year ago. It's great to see it blossom into something big. We must keep the hype going so that we can get a season two! These characters are sooooooooooooo believeable. I love Alex the most because I have a friend just like him. He represents that one gay friend who keeps you laughing! I love it!

Terrance

I liked the drag show too. However, it required a little suspension of disbelief, because I know from experience that it takes more than five minutes to get three guys done up in drag. LOL

JC

Noah's Arc gets all love from me..Its da bomb...I've read all the comments where some balked about the principle characters being fem or whatever..thats just not a concern for me...I'm just damn glad to see black gay men represented on the screen in a positive light. (on QAF we were background, or a trick that didnt speak or the big black buck that walked through a scene) On Noah's arc these MEN are smart, goodlooking , and real! The show is just a representation of some gay men...a specific group of friends...not all gay men are the same...not all black people look or act the same...it doesn't make one better..it takes an ass to cover every seat. And if some of the brothas balkin would be real, they know that in the gay community (and even their cirlce of friends)there are some fem , some that are little more thugged out whatever...stop looking to one show to show every aspect of gay life...live your life and you BE that example of the other kind of gay man. As for last night episode It was off the hook ...the drag number was a shock but hot hot hot...ALex worked out!(and the fact that his boy Trey was right there cheering him own was the sh*t)and to the haters...turn the damn channel if you don't like it! Quit doggin your own...

BOOKER

I always find it funny how BLACK FOLKS are quick to jump on other BLAKC FOLKS for criticizing their "OWN". WEEZ JUS SUPPOZ TO BE OH SO GRATEFUL THAT WEEZ ON DA TV AND WE NOT SUPPOZ TO BE DOIN' NO TRASH TALKIN'!!!! BULLSHIT!!! I'm sorry.....NOAH's ARC gets no special PASS from me.

First of all, everyone is entitled to their opinion....and we need to learn how to differentiate between disagreeing with a person's opinion and expressing disagreement with a person.

i agree with booker. i don't relate to this show AT ALL. i only watch it cuz it's gay black men. but it's not any men that i have ever been around. it's unfortunate that there's finally a show, and it trafficks in stereotypes and is hell-bent on normalizing queens to the detriment of producing a show that is either well-written, engaging, or plausible.

Frederick Smith

Totally agree, Keith. Last night's episode rocked! Never would have predicted that show-stopper performance coming at the end. Loved it. It's becoming my must-see TV for Wednesday nights for sure.

Bernie

Ok, the show is and probably will always be fluff. The characters are stereotypes we've all seen before, but so are a lot of people on tv. Getting four people suddenly made up in drag and all lip-synching and choreographed with no rehearsal was a major stretch. But last night was cute.

However, the most interesting part of the show for me was seeing former NBA star John Salley appear as a guest (he was Wade's friend who owned the bar.) Some of you non-sports fan may have missed that. For him to appear on a gay show on a gay network was a brave move.

guyinthestuy

Yes, Noah's Arc isn't perfect, and some of the premise of the show and characters are flawed, but it's good 'ole plain fun. In the process of "normalizing" thugness, a lot black gay men have forgotten how to laugh at themselves. People need to lighten up. So what if some of the characters are feminine. Noah's Arc doesn't have to be everything to everybody. Chill

Javix

Greetings!
One word....HILARIOUS!!!! (The Drag show had me LMAO) I loved it..I know people don't but i do...(My boi hated it..He said he felt the urge to go play football or something..LOL)Its like the gay version of a young black Golden Girls...(Now if that isnt more far from reality...4 Post menopausal women living in the same house and one is a mother daughter duo...come on..that had fantasy written all over it..but it was a hit as im sure this will be...LOL) Trey and Alex relationship is inspirational to me (And damn Trey is hot as Hell..If a little suga in my tank is all I need to get a man like that fill me up to the rim with the suga..)..The whole thing about Wade being a man and telling his bois about Noah was great. Being in a situation like that, at first i was kinda upset about Noah not toning down his 'gayness' when he knew he was going to met Wade's friends (i mean come on everyone else is drinking beer...hey you order a beer too..even if it is light beer or a cider..LOL) Many times i have asked my partners to change there clothes or 'butch' up a little around my friends and family. And in all the instances they have. I was like come on, Noah you aint that stupid. But the reality set in when he said "It took me a long time to be comfortable in the skin I was in." It wasn't fair for me to ask them that or expect them to do it..But in the end..If i like them I need to like all of them..Much kuudos to Wade for seeing Noah in that outfit and just be like babe i like you better as a man..I think more of us need to be comfortable in our own skin. I am learning that. Whether it is Fem or Masculine, gay or straight. So Mr. Patrik thank you for that.

Besides the show is just funny to me. Every episode has had me laughing..The one with the car wreck...when Noah takes the sports book and replaces it with the gay sex book (Personal memory..LOL)..

And no Bernie you werent the only one to recognize John Sally...LOL...It showed some love and acceptance that more people in the Black community need to do...

A couple of quick comments...What was Noah wearing in the opening scene...I was cracking up..He was making fun at all the other people in the bar (Leg warmers and wrong shoes) but he walked outside and I said to myself umm you noticed what everyone else was wearing, did you see what you had on...so the show is funny in more ways than one

Cant wait till next week when Noah is asked to revise Wade's script...That is drama just waiting to happend...

Until then,
Be Conscious!

Doug

Well, it's good to see the black gay community is not monolithic. Now if we can turn all this energy to positive action. Keep up the dialogue! Create a movement!

This show is AMAZING. I laughed so hard last night watching this show.. I mean when wade pretended that NOAH (defagging) made him like him better that was so funny.. im not sure if wade bought it or not..And when ALEX had a breakdown while putting on drag makeup that was really funny "what am i doing" "if trey sees me like this were thru". gosh alex is so damn funny. And that really fem guy i think his name is hell i dun remember. he is so damn funny, lol and watch ricky get jealous over a guy who normally couldnt compete with him hilarious. THis show is one for the ages.. i cant wait till it comes out on dvd.. Yes it may have faults (noticed the whole makeup, dress, choreography all in 1 minute thing) but i mean this show is bananas.. Cant wait till next wednesday.. Keep up the good work(whoever wrote the plot)

BOOKER

Now it's interesting...I disagree with some of the posters in that I found the pulling together of the drag performance not so far fetched andunrealistic. I mean that crew seems like the type who's had their fair share of SLUMBER PARTIES together where they played make up or made up routines to groups like ENVOGUE or DC. Observing the kind of friends they are...this ait the first time they've done something like that....perhaps in PUBLIC...but not the first time. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I thought the episode was very entertaining. Wednesday @ 10pm.

For the first time in a very long time, I rush home to watch something on TV. I certainly never invited friends over to watch stuff with me before either, but my home theater for one is definitely expanding... :-)

I Love this show! I laugh, I cry, and during the last episode I stood up to applaude! When will the DVD be available? lol!

Bill

I love it, I love it, I love it!!

precision

the thing about it is...in three episodes, i haven't really laughed at all at the show. it's poorly paced, and the dialogue is bad. not to mention the fact that these dudes could stand an acting workshop or two. i jus don't really get a kick out of it at all, but i keep giving it a chance to get better.

Cool

Honestly,

So I'm trying to figure out why I'm bothered by this show and don't plan to watch anymore episodes.

It's because I don't like or associate with any of those type of people in real life. Why would I be interested in watching fictionalized versions?

I think the show is real and true to life. It just ain't my life. I'm not closeted or homophobic. Not that I hate these type of people either.

To each their own. Live and let live.

I just have no desire to be around them. Never have. Never will.

Bishop

I really enjoy this show. Just coming out and accepting myself as I am the show has gave me a glimpse on this life style and I relate more with the character WADE - to all of the folk who have something negative to say about the show - WHY cant you be happy and just enjoy it? I know that it doesn’t portrays the whole black gay community - just gives you a piece of the culture if it tried to show everything then that would be a very long show.

So just sit back and Enjoy!!!!

Bishop

I have been searchin and searchin for that song that was playing when Brandy, Noah and Wade were starting the threesome. Called 'Afterglow but just found out it was only done for that scene. I hope that it will be on the sound track if possible

Soulpoet

I was truly upset by the departing of Queers as Folk, and then Noah's Arc came along. I know I'm not the only African-American hetero female out there that watches the show, and for all those out there - Isn't this show addictive!? I tell ya' one thing? This show should be longer than 30 minutes, but while you are watching it seems like it's longer. The cast reminds me so much of some friends of mine, and has given me insight on what their private convo's must be like. :::smiling::: To LOGO, keep up the good work!

Aundre'

I just love this show. It's entertaining, funny and thought-provoking all wrapped up into one. It seems to get better and better each week. What a great show about friendship and love! Who would have ever thought they would dress in drag to support Alex? Now that's true friendship. I don't think I could have done that. I was on the floor laughing my azz off watching them peform, especially Ricky. Love me some Ricky :-).

Next week cannot get here fast enough! Kudos to Patrik-Ian, the cast and crew of this show!

taylor Siluwé

I can't even express how much I love this show. Can't wait to see Chance go thug!

Cederico

I love the show. My friends and I watch it together at my place every Wednesday night. Its fun, sexy, has heart. And I can relate to it far more than Queer As Folk....which I did watch devoutly.

Bobby

'Sup Fam?

I just watched the third episode of Noah's Arc and while I still believe this to be a fun series, the third episode lacked the realism of the first two.

The acting has improved. The director continues his fantastic camera work. I like the dialogue on masculinity and femininity, but it seems that NA is becoming increasingly myopic in that it's going to great lengths to present the Feminine Man's Fantasy: That he is desirable to all "straight-acting" men.

Noah's argument about the aping of heterosexual identities is hypocritical because he's dating a "straight" guy. The speed with which Wade has become comfortable with his and Noah's relationship, his acceptance of Noah's drag dress, his bringing Noah to meet his straight friends, Wade's friends' casual acceptance of his new relationship all rang largely FALSE. I mean, it's not IMPOSSIBLE, but it's CLEARLY the writer's unlikely fantasy being brought to life.

And short of spinning around in a blinding flash like Wonder Woman, I'm not sure how three guys can get dressed in full drag and learn an entire routine in less than five minutes.

Still...still Noah's Arc is appealing and worth watching because of its daring.

Jamie

Noah's Arc: is the hottest thing on T.V.

Steed

I couldn't believe this episode!!! I screamed till I had no voice left!!! When I figured out that Noah, Ricky, and Chance dressed in drag to support Alex in the competition, I just PASSED OUT!!!!!! Chance REALLY let Eddie HAVE IT!!! And I just LOVE Alex and Trey's relationship!!! This is the most action packed episode so far!

And just my 2 cents: It's just a T.V. show guys! I'm not watching this show to look for a hero or someone to identify with! I love "Will & Grace" and I don't know ANYBODY like the 4 of them! Nore can I identify with any of them, and it's truly not because they are white. The post on here had sparked a great coversation between my lover and I. We both realized that in the end, you just take what you want and "need" from the show, and let the rest fall away. Just a show that FINALLY features black gay men as the stars! I also don't think this show is meant to be analized the way some of you all are doing (no offence to anybody!)Just my humble opinion.

Love the show, love the fact that there are 4 individual stories starting to evolve now, and love their friendship!!!

P.S.- The version of "Lovin' Is Really My Game" that was played for Alex's performance was NOT the original version by Brainstorm FYI! This was definately a recent remake by someone else!

Kenya

Just tell me is Wade really gay? Cause I might have to fight somebody. That damn man is so sexy.

Didn't Ricky looked like Jade Pinkett Smith in drag? That was funny as hell. I LOVE THIS SHOW.

Jeff

I know the actor who played Carl. Carl, in this week's episode, was the bouncer at the club that Ricky had a date with. He's played by the sexy Dwayne Chatham.

Mike

Hey Steed

FYI - the version of "Lovin' Is Really My Game" used in the show was a cover of the Brainstorm track by Mary Ann Tatum - she's been singing backup for Mariah Carey for 9 years and she's awesome!!

You can check out a complete listing of all the music from each episode on the Noah's Arc messageboard:

It's nice to have a show with a black gay cast, but it's not reality at all...everyone's a loud, obnoxious queen that is trying to out the whole world and have sex with any men who comes across their paths...and dressing up in drag? This may be your reality or Ian's reality, but it's definitely not reality of at least 80% of the black gay community...especially LA, where I travel regularly.

LIFELUVR13

I think that Patrik has done avery good job with the characters he has chosen to portray in NA. It seems such a shame that so many of our people are not supportive of eachother and very critical of any efforts we make as individuals to better ourselves. I know our black gay community is diverse, but thats the beauty of it all! No two people are exactly alike but there are some of us that share characteristics that help us relate to another person. Patrik could not, nor would I expect him to capture every personality in our gay community in this 30 min show, which is less thatn 30 min when you factor in commercials. All you people out there who have an opinion, ITS OKAY to have one...but choose wisely when to open your mouth and voice or when to shut up and be respected for knowing when "NOT TO SPEAK!" Unfortunately some of us did not learn that one in Sunday School. Its an excellent show and I don't want to miss an episode,by the way...My life partner and I live together for 6 years now and we've experienced alot of "gay" shows, this one finally gives a positive light to us in that we are intellligent people, we do have very good incomes, not all of us beg and depend on others and not allof us are drug lords and dealers or users and most of all!!!..we all Love..Thanks LifeLuvr

Steed

Mike,

Thanks for helping me to clear that up! Personally, I'm not a huge disco fan nor a house fan, but I do prefer Brainstorm's original more, not taking anything away from Mary Ann Tatum, she worked it out!

I will join your message board, thanks for the heads up on both!!!
