The Bush administration and the right-wing, white christian zealots created these monsters such as Bill Bennett and Jesse Peterson and now they want to pretend to back away from them. I say let's make sure that voting America sees the connection in 2006 and 2008. They should not be allowed to disassociate themselves from the vicious demagoguery they have fostered and festered. These are republican spokesmen; own up to them like the Frankenstein monsters they are. Shem hotep!

I saw him on (http://www.bondinfo.org/activism/black_vanguard/vanguard.htm) C-SPAN several months ago with Roy Innis (National Chairman and CEO of Congress of Racial Equality) , Gloria Jackson (President, Booker T. Washington Speaker's Network), Mychal Massie (Syndicated Columnist and member of Project 21), and Niger Innis (National Spokesperson, Congress of Racial Equality). The Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny (BOND) and The Heritage Foundation co-sponsored this [sad] event titled "Responding to the Call: The New Black Vanguard Conference." It was shown opposite Tavis Smiley’s "State of the Black Union" that same day. I assume (in unadulterated optimism) that it was C-SPAN's way of balancing points of view for the day.

I had never heard such racist, conservative, assimilationist garbage in my whole life, and I've heard more than a few speeches about the condition of Black people. Each one of them, including Gloria Jackson, Booker T. Washington's own grand-daughter, sat there pretending that slavery was a mere "pimple" on the face of Blacks in America and, that if Blacks would all just pick up a Bible, go to church, and "take care" of our own problems, that everything would be alright. The members of the Heritage Foundation had the most gratified look on their faces as these Black people tore their own people apart. They actually seemed quite proud of themselves.

I hadn't thought about it anymore until I read about his recent remarks. Isn't it something how we remember such things? Like "phd2b11's" signature says, "People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel." because I definitely remember how I felt then. I do clearly also remember how close Mr. Peterson was to saying much the same thing about Black babies that day. All of them seem to think that poor Blacks were some kind of infestation of people "lacking moral character," rather than a people who need help.

He registers along the same scale of others that I can only explain by their having been paid by conservatives to say such irrational, hurtful, and ignorant things. Actually, especially after Katrina, I am beginning to believe that some of us would rather morph into anger our feelings of grief to avoid them. That includes feelings about slavery, the state of Black America, as well as hurricanes.

I have met Rev. Peterson and been interviewed on his radio program. I was there because I challegend him for calling Coretta S. King a disgrace to the civil rights movement for her support of gay equality.
My friends in the LGBT community warned me, but I always have to see for myself what someone is about, and on their turf, if necessary.
Peterson is the worst kind of cockroache's ass you could ever know.
One thing I hate about people like him, is how often they claim that they are the ONLY ones who know the absolute truth about gay people and how homosexuality happens.
Peterson hasn't the brains of a cockroach either.
Pompous, self righteous and ignorant as cockroach turds.
And he does about as much for gay people as Tom Brady (founder of the Citizen's Councils) did for blacks.
There will be a reckoning for all those who have claimed doing god's work while vilifying and damaging gay folks.
The Jesus way is to teach empathy. Defend and take risks for the misunderstood underdog...not kick them when they are down while helping to keep them down.

Peterson defended Bennett. Let's play devils advocate and let say Peterson made the comment saying white babies should be aborted to reduce the number of racist white people being born into the world? He would insight every white man to seek him out and cut his throat, conservative or liberal.Because right or wrong they still side with each other.

Peterson and others who are like minded are hurting us. But they can not see it because they are busy with accepting whats being provided.

To me it equates to a black man defending the KKK. That sounds foolish? Yes it does!!! WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!

Why he would defend such comments or any african american for that matter. The comment related to people who look like him.

For the comments made about our fellow brothers and sisters in New Orleans dome. His comments were way out of line. Because those were my people dying and struggling to survive and his too. Those people had a double dose of UNCERTAINTY.

I say to those preachers who are buying into this propaganda. To kiss my ass because they should be tired of kissing the conservatives ass. However a fool will never learn until its too late.

Keep up the good work Keith. I wish there were more people like you to inspire us to think out of the box.

What I'd like to know is is Bill Bennett saying anything about his ignorant statement? Like "My comments were misunderstood" or "You have me all wrong" or "Some of my best friends are blacks who have babies that should be aborted". Is he trying to clean it up? Has there been an apology? Anything?

Now, I'm no fan of Jesse Paterson's. Never even heard of him before this posting. I do have MSNBC & C-SPAN. Guess I need to tune in sometimes. What I want to say is that yes, bigotry exist in this country & ignorance is alive & well. Probably always will be. Having experienced homelessness & sometimes not even having enough to eat or a decent change of clothing growing up, I'd be the last person to bash poor people. They need help, not condemnation & criticizm for circumstances beyond their control. That said, I really do feel we need to do some serious self examination. Bigotry can't be fingered for everything, like the high incidence of black on black crime, why we disrespect ourselves by calling each other niggers, pimps, bitches, & whores, etc. What about the high incidence of HIV/AIDS transmission in our community? The information is out there. We know how it's spread, so why are we still disproportionately affected. We say "they" flood our communities with drugs & guns. That may very well be true. We're not manufacturing guns or drugs (except crack) in the hood. All of these things were designed for destruction & we know this. So why do we continue to gravitate toward that which weakens us? Why do we pick up guns to settle disputes? If these things are instruments of the "devil", are we not playing into his hands? Why don't more of our children aspire to be doctors, lawyers, investment bankers, etc? WHY DON'T WE ENCOURAGE THEM TO BE MORE THAN JUST RAPPERS & BALLERS? God forbid, if this country is hit by a terrorist attack, they not going to call Michael Jordan or Jay-Z. As sucessful as P Diddy is, he's not really apart of the infrastructure of this country. I like to be entertained as much as the next person & there is a place for that but we can do more. We are capable of doing more. We've suffered. We've been raped, castrated, lynched, tarred & feathered, beaten, ran out of town, & have been put down in every way by just about everyone & we're still here. WE'RE NOT VICTIMS. WE ARE SURVIVORS. As long as we see ourselves as victims, we'll never live up to our full potential collectively. The white man is just that: a man. I'm tired of focusing on idiots. Let's get to work & fix these problems in our communities because no one else is going to do it. It's our community, it's our responsibility. If we don't do it, they certainly won't.

I am so pissed, i don't know where to begin! First of all when black people commit crimes it is usually a crime of survival(i.e. theft).When white people commit crimes it is for thrill(murdering babies,killing their parents etc). The biggest crime in history was slavery! I wish i could meet that self hating son of a bitch! I am so sick of these wannabe house niggas(i say wanna be because he is too damn black to live in the house).Always trying to kiss massa's ass. doesn't he know that white people have absolutely NO respect for ass kissers?! Jesse Lee Patterson, is a discusting ingrate. He is no reverend. Reverent means likened to being worshipped and he hates which disqualifies him from being a preacher, Three years ago I heard this clown on a right-wing radio show. He said some disparaging things about black women. Maybe this clown couldn't get a date with a black girl or something and he turned against the race. One writer was right, no one white respects this man, hes a clown and behind the scenes they make fun of his silly ass. But people they pay him and send him and his white wife( nothing wrong with that) to the plushest hotels. when the Far-Right turns on him, hes got no where to go. He'll fly into obscurity like that other Right-Wing whore, Armstrong Williams. People like this clown needs to be pittied and we should not waste our energy hating this whore for the Hard Right.

I've noticed that every one of you who have posted against this man have used profane and vile language.

When someone speaks the truth that truth is always maliciously attacked.

He's right--welfare has denegrated, decimated and enslaved the minds of millions of blacks.

The blacks who try to rise above the welfare and criminal behaviour are called uncle Toms. In many high schools if a black student is doing well, he or she is often harassed and even beaten up by gangs who say that the "good" students are "serving the white man".

As long as we, as a nation continue to allow the blacks a free pass on criminal and immoral behaviour because they are "black", we are neither helping them or our country.

And there will be racism as long as the blacks keep it alive!

I'm always intrigued by people who claim that it is "the blacks" that are keeping racism alive. It's a pretty convenient claim, after all, because it suggests that if we black people would just go on about our business and stop talking about racism, there wouldn't be any. The convenience of it is that it lets white people and institutions off the hook completely, despite an intense and ongoing history of racist laws, traditions, cultures, and practices. And while I don't know you, or your intentions, your claim is consistent with a tradition of white racism that cuts people of color off at the knees, and then tells them to "shut up all that screaming!"

I don't see what you see, Jeanine. I don't see any way in which
"we, as a nation...allow the blacks a free pass on criminal and immoral behaviour because they are "black"..." On the contrary, I see this nation as one so obsessed with blacks as criminals that during a natural disaster like hurricane katrina "we" rushed to protect property (from "them") when PEOPLE were in trouble and dying everywhere. What sense does it make to protect a Wal-Mart that is already under seven feet of water? It makes sense if and only if you don't perceive the people there as PEOPLE, but as a CRIMINAL ELEMENT. Blacks don't get a free pass - on the contrary, we are primarily thought of as criminals first, and people second, even and perhaps especially when our lives are actually in danger.

A black person who would endorse such a stance, that blacks are by nature, and even by birth, a criminal element, is certainly going to come under heavy fire from communities of color. And deservedly so. Perhaps if Reverend Peterson agrees so wholeheartedly with Bill Bennett's musings about black abortion lowering the crime rate, he should volunteer to abort his own children, or maybe even himself.

I know the Heritage Foundation is snickering behind Rev Petersons' back and will surely distance themselves from him.Where did they find that ignorant plantation clown? Clearly, Peterson is pitiful and cannot be taken seriously.Shame on the Feritage foundation for not recognizing the pathology.
