Beyond The Down LowIt's almost here. I've spent the past few months working like crazy to finish my new book, Beyond The Down Low. It's been a lot of work, but I am really excited about it. All the long hours of writing, the summer days stuck in the house and the invitations I had to pass up were all worth it. And I can't wait till it's released.

The past year has been a real exciting time in my life. I started out with the busiest lecture schedule I've had in years. I was on the road every week of the winter and spring, and I was really looking forward to a summer at home or at the beach.

Nathan and I made plans to take a couple of trips this summer. We were going to head to Toronto in June for a summer vacation and then onto Italy and Greece about now for an end-of-summer treat. And I was supposed to spend most of the summer relaxing and writing out at Fire Island. But all those plans came to a screeching halt in May.

When Nathan and I were selected to be on American Candidate, our lives began to change. We spent the better part of the summer on the road taping the show. We had to cancel our trip to Toronto and lost the money we spent on it, and then we each had to go into work mode for the rest of the summer.

Nathan has been traveling across the country this summer to promote his new movie Ski Trip while I've been at home writing. In fact, that's all I've been doing. I haven't been to the gym. I haven't been to any new restaurants or bars or clubs. I haven't been to the beach. I've been at home writing. That's why you haven't heard from me on this web site much.

The past month has been particularly intense. I don't think I've ever spent so much of my time writing before. Every day I've been getting up in the morning and writing all day long without leaving the house and working until 4 or 5 in the morning. I've discovered that I can get a lot more done late at night than during the day when there are more distractions.

I have also just learned that my email has not been working. Apparently my email address for this website stopped working a few months ago, which means I missed most of the email that was sent to me during the summer. If there was something urgent you needed me to get, I didn't get it. Sorry. I will try to have it fixed by next week.

It's been a long summer, but again it's worth it. I am grateful to all my friends and acquaintances that I haven't seen or spoken to in the past few months. Thank you for your patience and understanding. It's not over yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Beyond The Down Low will be released in February 2005.

The next episode of American Candidate airs this Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.

I was loving your article (nice to hear from you again) until the end when you noted that your book isn't coming out until FEBRUARY!! Aaggh! I am sure it will be worth the wait. And hopefully, we will have a new president by then (If Kerry gets some balls and figures out what he stands for). A neat website that monitors the polls on a state by state basis and is updated daily is : www.electoral-vote.com . Just remember that the only poll that counts is on Nov. 3rd--be there.

I look forward to it's release in 2005!! Hope you put Atlanta on your book tour schedule.

p.s. I loved Nathan in "Ski Trip". As a matter of fact, the entire cast was great. Big ups to the writer/director. He was so nice at Atlanta Black Gay Pride. I wish him much success.

p.s.#2 I also, saw your cameo in Noah's Arc!! another great endeavor by our communities finest.

Keep having fun!!

I just found your web site yesterday . It makes me so happy to know that I am not the only black guy out here with the same views on rights for the black gay community. Many people(guys) see us as just sex fens but it is so much more than that in life . People have their views on our life but until step an inch in mine you will never know. Thank you for your voice.Thank you and Nathan for showing the world that it is possible for Blackmen to find love out there and not settling for the corner store drunks. Black Gay men need to wake-up them selves and look how some of us have let the quote black community unquote led us to beleive that this life is a sickness. This is a way of life and a way of living for a lot of us out there and the sad part about it is that a lot of us are happy with our lifes but the people on the outside looking in or the ones that are having the real problems. Much Love Thanks

Micah

Take care...

Keith,

Glad to know that you have invested your time in writing your book...As they say, hard work will reap benefits. I'm looking forward to "Beyond the Down Low" and hope you make personal appearances in Atlanta and Memphis, TN for the book signing...I just moved from Pinole,California.
Memphis, TN is a little culture shock, but
financially it was the best thing for me. I now can live a good life that was denied to me before.
The cost of buying a home and economically it was the best decision I've made. Much success to you.
You are a diligent, intelligent writer and hope everything turns out well for you.
Best of luck,

Don Jones

Okay, can't WAIT for your voice to be added to this whole DL brouhaha in book form. Enough is enough already. Meantime, i can't believe i was sitting two rows behind Nathan at the Noah's Arc screening in Atlanta, and didn't introduce myself. I kept saying, "Nah, that's not him." AND i missed Ski Trip. Ah well ...

Best to you both. I keep watching American Candidate ...
